  We enrolled our 5.5-month-old daughter at Alaska Children’s Academy II and unfortunately had to withdraw her after only three days due to serious safety and developmental concerns. During drop-off yesterday, I witnessed another infant with a large screw in his mouth—an extremely alarming and unacceptable safety issue. Additionally, our daughter was routinely placed in walkers despite not being developmentally ready for such equipment, which goes against current best practices for infant care. While we addressed these issues with the center’s administrator, the response we received did not provide the clarity or accountability we expected. We ultimately did not feel confident in the level of supervision or commitment to safe, developmentally appropriate care, and made the decision to leave. To their credit, the center refunded our tuition promptly, and we are grateful for that. I also want to acknowledge Ms. Cheryl, one of the caregivers, who was consistently kind, warm, and attentive. She clearly cares deeply for the children and deserves recognition. It’s also important to note that, after this experience, we discovered that staff from this center are moderators of a large local parenting Facebook group where many families go to read and share daycare reviews. This may explain why no critical feedback appears there. Transparency matters—especially when it comes to our children.
