How the Daycare Confidence Index Is Calculated

Licensing inspections and how recent they are, the number and severity of violations, whether problems are improving or getting worse over time, and any enforcement actions such as warnings, probation, suspensions, emergency closures, or license revocations. Recent and serious issues matter most; older, minor problems count less or not at all. Providers with recent serious enforcement actions are limited to lower score ranges, even if other areas look good.

Average rating across platforms, how many reviews a provider has, how recent the latest reviews are, and how consistent the ratings have been over time. A statistical adjustment stops very small review counts from unfairly boosting or penalizing providers. Reviews are capped so they cannot outweigh serious regulatory concerns.

Recognized national accreditations such as NAEYC, the National Accreditation Commission, and APPLE. Having accreditation raises the score; not having it does not lower it. Many strong providers have simply not pursued accreditation yet.

A recognized director credential, CDA-qualified staff, staff with bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood Education, and high completion rates for required staff training. More proven qualifications raise this part of the score. Lack of documented qualifications does not imply poor quality, but it does limit how high a provider can score in this category. Florida's public data does not yet expose per-provider staff qualifications, so this category currently reads zero for every listing while we work on a source.

Operating hours and contact information, website and photos, curriculum and meals information, VPK and School Readiness details, and whether the provider serves children with special needs. A complete profile earns a small bonus. This category cannot move a provider from a lower band into the highest band by itself.
