One place to compare them, with every absence labelled instead of papered over.
Choosing a daycare, preschool, or childcare center is one of the most important decisions a parent will make, and for us, that decision hit home when my wife and I found out we were expecting our first child.
As someone who works in IT and approaches problem-solving analytically, my natural instinct was to research every single detail to ensure we were making the best possible choice for our baby. But as I started digging, I quickly found myself down an overwhelming rabbit hole. I was jumping between dozens of poorly formatted state websites, looking up legal definitions, trying to decipher state violation levels, decoding program requirements, and cross-referencing conflicting online reviews.
That was my turning point. I realized that if a technical, data-minded person had to fight through that much friction just to get clear answers, the process was fundamentally broken. Parents who don't have the time, the technical background, or the patience to dig through obscure public databases are left at a massive disadvantage, not through any fault of their own, but because the system is unnecessarily complex.
That's why Daycare Finder was born.
We aggregate trusted public records, including licensing histories, state inspection reports, program offerings, accreditations, and parent feedback into clean, straightforward profiles. Instead of spending hours jumping across multiple websites and trying to interpret raw data, families can quickly compare providers on a single page and make confident, informed choices for their children.
Our directory covers licensed child care providers across Florida, built from the Department of Children and Families' own public register and the inspection records it publishes alongside it. Florida is the only state whose inspection outcomes we hold, which is why it is the only state we publish. The settings we list are the ones DCF licenses:
What a profile can show depends on what the state publishes, and we say so rather than filling the gap in. Some states publish every inspection finding; some publish only a licence status; a few publish no per-facility roster at all. Where a field is absent, the profile says so plainly instead of guessing.
A few programme names belong to a single state. Florida runs VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten), the School Readiness Program, and Gold Seal accreditation, and those flags appear on Florida profiles because Florida publishes them in its licensing feed. Other states run their own programmes under their own names, and those appear where the state publishes them.
Florida DCF publishes a public record of every provider it licenses, but the licence register, the inspection reports, and the program flags live in separate places with separate layouts, and researching more than a couple of providers gets slow fast. Parents end up cross-referencing the CARES provider search, inspection reports, Google and Yelp reviews, provider websites, and program information, and each source answers only part of the picture.

We believe parents deserve transparent, verifiable information. Every listing is built using publicly available records and links back to the original source whenever possible.
Each state licenses child care through its own agency and publishes its own register. Where Florida DCF publishes a field, we carry it: license status, number, type, and expiration; maximum capacity; provider type; accreditation; program participation in the terms DCF uses; and the facility address.
DCF does not publish every field for every provider. The Florida licensing guide names what the agency releases and how often it inspects.
Where a state publishes inspection records, the history includes routine inspections, complaint investigations when publicly available, inspection dates and findings, and compliance history.
Fewer states publish inspection detail than publish licences, so an empty inspection record usually means the state releases nothing, not that the provider has a clean sheet. We label which it is.
Where available, we display publicly available Google information: overall rating, review count, business hours, photos, and customer feedback summaries.
For providers with public Yelp listings, we include the overall rating, review count, and recent customer reviews. Every profile links back to the original sources so parents can review the information firsthand.

All trademarks, logos, and business names remain the property of their respective owners.

Some filters only exist where a state publishes the flag behind them: Florida's licensing feed carries VPK, School Readiness, and Gold Seal accreditation, so Florida pages offer those filters and other states do not.
