What California does not publish here
The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

We have had a wonderful experience at this daycare and highly recommend it. The teachers are caring, attentive, and genuinely invested in the children. Our son is happy when we drop him off, excited to see his teachers and friends, and is constantly learning new things. We appreciate the safe, nurturing environment and the excellent communication from the staff. We feel very fortunate to have found such a great place for our family.
Natalie PosdaljianMay 29, 2026I feel so lucky to have found this daycare for my son! The teachers are so patient and kind. They go above and beyond to make AOP feel like a loving community more than just a daycare. The picture and video updates throughout the day give me such peace of mind knowing that my son is happy and learning! Getting to see what fun activites he is doing helps me continue to feel connected to him even while I work. The teachers are so creative and come up with such well-planned themes and activities. I love the Spanish immersion aspect as well, even though we do not speak Spanish at home. I highly recommend AOP!
Allison AllenMay 28, 2026I am so happy I found Academy of Play. My older child was graduating from another facility when I had my baby who needed alternative options. After all, as parents, the hardest decision to make is who to trust your baby with. Most tend to stay with what they know, because it's comfortable and proven to be safe even if it doesn't fit each child you have as perfectly as the last. Fortunately for my family, we found the best fit. The fit being Academy of Play. The teachers are all caring, emotionally attentive, and tuned in with each child as if they were their own. The documentation, updates throughout the day, regular photos, lesson plans, and development assessments are comforting and reassuring that my baby is well taken care of. The staff is not lazy when it comes to speaking with the children. Your child will fully be immersed in Spanish. There is no bias if the child does not come from a native Spanish speaking environment or if the child does not have a Hispanic/Spanish/Latin background. The classrooms are bright, clean, and filled with tons of art. There is always an instructor led activity and the school invites families to attend musicals, art shows, and more. The chances to be involved especially the parent/teacher meetings regardless of age does ease a lot of mom guilt I tend to have due to needing to work long hours some days. All children are welcomed and loved. I could not speak more highly of the program.
Shaina LeeMay 28, 2026We love academy of play !! The teachers and staff are amazing, caring, and truly dedicated to the children. The program is engaging, educational, and creates such a warm and welcoming environment. We are so happy with our experience and highly recommend this school to any family looking for a wonderful preschool🌸!!
GS AAMay 23, 2026I just wanted to come on here and say, from an educator’s perspective, this school is AMAZING! So many students I’ve met from this specific program come out speaking Spanish so well!! The teachers provide such an incredible model for articulation, accents, and vocabulary. We recently went to Mexico, and my daughter was able to talk to locals from the town my family is from. Just being in this class gave her the confidence to speak and continue learning over winter break! Thank you all so, so much for what you’ve done!
Jess DMar 24, 2026We absolutely loved our experience at Academy of Play in El Cajon! The Spanish immersion program made such a huge difference for my son—by the time he was old enough for TK, he already knew so much basic Spanish that they moved him straight into kindergarten. I truly believe that strong foundation came from the amazing program at Academy of Play. The activities are always fun, engaging, and interactive—he was constantly learning while having a blast. The classrooms are also consistently clean and well-organized, which I really appreciated. But don’t expect your kids to come home spotless at the end of the day 😂—that just means they had an amazing time getting involved in all the hands-on activities! I was so sad to leave Academy of Play, but I guess that just means our baby is growing up. I’m so grateful for the love, care, and education he received here. Highly recommend to any parent looking for a nurturing and enriching environment!

Questions parents ask about ACADEMY OF PLAY
Is ACADEMY OF PLAY a licensed child care provider in California?
- Yes. ACADEMY OF PLAY holds California licence 376105153, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on April 12, 2024. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.
What kind of child care licence does ACADEMY OF PLAY hold?
- California licenses ACADEMY OF PLAY as a single licensed child care center, a category that covers infant, preschool and school-age care under a single licence. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.
How many children can ACADEMY OF PLAY care for?
- ACADEMY OF PLAY is licensed for up to 94 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.
How often has California inspected ACADEMY OF PLAY?
- California records 1 inspection visit to ACADEMY OF PLAY, the most recent on May 28, 2025. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.
Has California visited ACADEMY OF PLAY in response to a complaint?
- California records no complaint-driven visits to ACADEMY OF PLAY. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.
Who holds the licence for ACADEMY OF PLAY?
- The licence is held by ACADEMY OF PLAY LLC. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in San Diego County.
