What California does not publish here
The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

My daughter attends Brea Head Start, and I truly cannot say enough amazing things about the experience we’ve had here. From day one, the teachers and staff have been so kind, welcoming, and genuinely invested in the children. The growth I’ve seen in my daughter has been incredible. She has learned so much academically.. letters, numbers, early reading skills but even more importantly, she’s grown socially and emotionally. She’s more confident, communicates better, and comes home excited to tell me about her day. It’s clear that the curriculum is thoughtful and engaging, and that the teachers truly care about each child’s development. The staff goes above and beyond to create a safe, structured, and loving environment. They communicate well with parents, keep us informed, and always make me feel like my child matters. As a parent, that peace of mind means everything. I’m so grateful for this program and this specific location. It has made such a positive impact on my daughter’s life and our family. I would absolutely recommend Brea Head Start to any parent looking for a supportive and enriching early learning environment.
Alexis MelloFeb 26, 2026My daughter has had a fantastic experience in their Early Head Start program (technically a separate program within Head Start). The staff is friendly and loving. The location is a little odd, as they lease space at the Brea United Methodist Church, but they are completely unaffiliated and are secular. Playground equipment is all less than 2 years old. They foster and promote heavy parental involvement, so it is ideal for any parents that are stay-at-home or part-time employees so that they can volunteer or participate in programs for adults (both fun stuff and life skills things). The Head Start is focused on children more in need of support than average, be that due to financial hardships, challenging family dynamics, special learning needs, and more, and they establish enrollment based on an internal grading scale of those most in need. So, it is not exactly easy to get a spot, and your spot is not guaranteed and you may need to re-enroll at the end of the school year or if your child ages out of their current program. It's a bit of a pain, but it allows them to review everyone looking for placement and give spots to those most deserving based on their system. I'm sharing, because having enrolled my daughter upon the recommendation of the OC Regional Center, I had no idea what Head Start was or how they worked and it has been a roller-coaster; thankfully, a fun one full or support. <3

Questions parents ask about BREA HEAD START
Is BREA HEAD START a licensed child care provider in California?
- Yes. BREA HEAD START holds California licence 304371587, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on September 26, 2022. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.
What kind of child care licence does BREA HEAD START hold?
- California licenses BREA HEAD START as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.
How many children can BREA HEAD START care for?
- BREA HEAD START is licensed for up to 40 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.
How often has California inspected BREA HEAD START?
- California records 1 inspection visit to BREA HEAD START, the most recent on May 30, 2025. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.
Has California visited BREA HEAD START in response to a complaint?
- California records no complaint-driven visits to BREA HEAD START. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.
Who holds the licence for BREA HEAD START?
- The licence is held by ORANGE COUNTY HEAD START. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Orange County.
