  Two years ago, while touring preschools for my youngest child, I visited Burlingame Montessori and met the owner, Linette. The place felt so warm and welcoming, and Linette was so kind and thoughtful, that I knew immediately this was the right place for my son. I brought the application back two hours later that same day, and we were lucky enough to get the last spot on the roster. Over the first year, we learned a lot about the school. Originally, we had planned to stay for one year and then move on to TK, but our experience was so wonderful, and our son was thriving so much, that we decided to stay for one more year. One of the things that stood out to us was how stable and experienced the teaching team is. Many teachers have been at Burlingame Montessori for a long time — 10 years, 8 years, 4 years, and so on — and that consistency really shows. The preschool is very well organized. We always received helpful information well in advance, followed by a monthly newsletter. Throughout the year, the school offered events for parents and children that felt age-appropriate, thoughtful, and genuinely enjoyable. I loved how the school balanced fun activities with age-appropriate learning. The teachers were always available to talk, answer questions, and help with anything we needed. Parents were always welcome to visit, check on their children, or participate in activities. No one was ever pressured to volunteer, but those who wanted to help had many easy and meaningful ways to do so. I actually enjoyed volunteering at this preschool more than any other volunteering I have done at my older children’s schools. We could clearly see how much our son developed over his two years there. During his “senior” year, he took on more responsibilities, learned to read and write, worked on math, had more complicated Montessori “jobs,” and loved helping the younger children. He even refused to truly say goodbye to the school at his graduation. He plans to come back, bring snacks, read books to the children, and maybe even do some activities with them. I really felt that I could rely on this school during our two years there, and I will truly miss it. This was our best preschool experience among three children and several preschools over the years.
