What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • It's such a warm and welcoming environment. The teachers are non-judgmental and supportive of both kids and parents, and it's clear they genuinely care about each and every child. When you work in the classroom, it's so nice to get to know other kids and see your child in action. Beyond that, it feels like the school is built for families, not just kids. Having purpose in the classroom connects you to other parents in a way that doesn't seem possible anywhere else. Housekeeping days, fundraising events, parent education, school participation at city events...they all help us feel like we're part of a community.

  • I highly recommend LNS! Both our kids attended all three classes and we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. The teachers are warm and caring and have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom when it comes to toddlers and early childhood. Our family loved the school and community we formed from our time there. If you’re curious about a co-op I would check it out!

  • As my third year of attending comes to a close, yes I attend too since it’s a co-op, I’m realizing how thankful I am to have chosen to enroll. Not only has my daughter found such a positive nurturing environment, I learned how to be a first time parent. I would highly recommend a tour if you are looking for a similar experience.

  • Highly recommend Lafayette Nursery School if you are in the area and looking for a co-op preschool. The teachers are great with the kids and there are always so many things for the kids to do during a normal school year (this year has been distance learning due to COVID, so a bit different since it's been take home activities instead of in-person). Parent education is also a great offering and very helpful. It's a wonderful preschool.

  • I found Lafayette Nursery School (LNS) when I was researching preschools for my daughter. A friend of mine told me about co-op style preschools and how they benefited not only the child, but the parent(s) as well. I had very few friends with children so the idea of meeting parents with children the same age was very appealing to me. I visited their booth at the annual Pleasant Hill Preschool Fair. I entered my information there and with a few other schools, but only heard back from LNS. They offered to let me come in and shadow the 2s class to see if my daughter would like it. Well, that’s all it took. She LOVED it! They offer several activities that change daily. There is a math and science option, art option, rug (engineering toys) option, cooking option (with a parent in the kitchen), writing option (varies for each class) and free play with play dough/art or pretend play. Plus, there is an awesome play yard with animals, art, gardens, trikes, play structure and sand area. What kid wouldn’t thrive with all of those things at their fingertips? My daughter is now in the 4/5s class and has made so many friends…and so have I. I consider LNS a family. This community of families really comes together to create a fun and supportive environment. We will be coming back in a year with our son and look forward to watching him grow at LNS!

  • I am so glad we found Lafayette Nursery School for my son, who is starting his second year of preschool there. LNS is a wonderful, nurturing co-op preschool and has been the perfect fit for my three year old. The teachers have years of experience and work very hard to provide a wide range of learning experiences for the children. I am continually impressed by their creativity and dedication. LNS has a great system for orienting new parents and making you feel like part of the team right away. I love being in the classroom on my co-oping days to take part in my son’s experience.

Questions parents ask about LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL

Is LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL a licensed child care provider in California?

Yes. LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL holds California licence 070200456, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on May 30, 1976. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL hold?

California licenses LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL care for?

LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL is licensed for up to 25 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL?

California records 5 inspection visits to LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL, the most recent on April 27, 2026 and the earliest on record February 15, 2023. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.

Has California visited LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL in response to a complaint?

California records no complaint-driven visits to LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.

Who holds the licence for LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL?

The licence is held by LAFAYETTE NURSERY SCHOOL, INC. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Contra Costa County.
