What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • I met with the director about the preschool program and was met with so much kindness. I believe her name was Amanda and she was so knowledgeable. She answered all my questions and was so patient as I inquired about the school. Little Sprouts Preschool is very lucky to have a professional and warm representative. I recommend all students enroll here!

  • Little Sprouts in San Luis Obispo works to provide the best experience for both the children and their parents. The staff is caring, attentive, and truly invested in the kids growth and happiness. Also, the environment is clean, welcoming, and full of engaging activities that keep children excited to learn. It’s clear they put a lot of thought into creating a special learning space. I would highly recommend to any parent looking for a supportive and positive place for their child!

  • Where do I even begin- my son attended Little Sprouts daycare starting at 6 months old and then transitioned into the preschool setting at 3 years old. From day 1 the staff communicated anything and everything I would want to see regarding my sons day and more. Around 14 months of age, my son started to show signs of delays, later to be diagnosed with a permanent disability. The way the staff and owner showed love and compassion towards us, our son, and our journey was nothing short of a miracle. They allowed his therapists to come in and provide him services, as well as teach the staff new tips and tricks for him to be able to transition through the day with only minor hiccups. The owner walked us through getting early intervention services, and was always more than willing to find ways to accommodate his needs within reason. Were there days we needed to pick him up due to severe dysregulation, yes. However, I understood that it wasn't just about my child, it was about all the children in the daycare and preschool settings. I always felt like child safety was the number one priority. My son is now in Gen-ed Kindergarten and thriving, and I firmly believe if it wasn't for the staff and ownership from Little Sprouts, he would not be as well adjusted and able to get through full day school on his own. I am forever grateful for our experiences at Little Sprout and always recommend them to anyone looking for a caring, loving, and safe environment.

  • Little Sprouts Preschool in San Luis Obispo has been an absolute gift to our family. From the moment you walk in, there’s a warmth and sense of care that you can feel immediately. The teachers are not only experienced and attentive, but genuinely kind and invested in each child’s growth. They strike that rare balance between nurturing and encouraging independence, helping kids build confidence while still feeling safe and supported. The curriculum is thoughtful and engaging, with a great mix of play-based learning, creativity, and early academics. My child comes home excited to share what they’ve learned each day, which says everything. The outdoor space is another highlight—it’s inviting, well-maintained, and gives kids plenty of room to explore and just be kids. Communication with parents is consistent and reassuring, and it’s clear that the staff truly partner with families. Every detail, from daily routines to special activities, feels intentional and centered around the children’s well-being. Don’t hesitate, just call and see for yourself!

  • After such a wonderful experience at Little Sprouts Avila, transitioning our daughter to Little Sprouts Preschool in SLO felt like a natural next step - and it has exceeded every expectation we had. From day one, we’ve been incredibly impressed with how well-run and thoughtfully structured the preschool is. One of the standout elements is the level of communication. We receive multiple updates throughout the day, each tied to meaningful observations that align with early learning standards. It’s not just updates for the sake of it—you can clearly see the intention behind everything they do. The Brightwheel curriculum they use is truly exceptional. For example, we might get an update like, “Today, we practiced recognizing numbers 1–16 out of order and learned how to say each number in Spanish.” At just 4 years old, our daughter is already learning about continents, animals, and cultural traditions from around the world. It’s incredible to see the depth and breadth of what she’s being exposed to at such a young age. Beyond academics, what really makes this school special is the sense of community they’ve built. From events like the Mother’s Day brunch, to local “field trips,” to having first responders and local dentists come in and teach the kids about safety and hygiene - it feels like so much more than a preschool. It feels like a true partnership between families, educators, and the broader community. As parents, we feel incredibly grateful to have found a place so intentional, nurturing, and engaging. Our daughter will be moving on to TK next year as part of Little Sprouts Preschool’s very first graduating class, and it genuinely feels like an honor to be part of something so special. The staff, teachers, and owner are all deeply hands-on and lead with so much care and love for each child. We couldn’t recommend Little Sprouts Preschool more highly.

  • I rarely leave reviews like this, but as a parent, I feel a responsibility to share our experience. My daughter attended this school briefly after transitioning from a Montessori program she had been in since 18 months old. I was transparent from the beginning that she was adjusting to a new environment and may need patience and support during that transition. Instead, what we experienced was deeply concerning. I received frequent calls about “misbehavior,” which felt excessive for a three-year-old adjusting to a new setting. The final incident involved the school reporting that my daughter spit on a teacher. When I spoke with my daughter, she admitted it—but explained it was because the teacher grabbed her and it hurt. She had already expressed that it hurt before reacting. That alone was alarming. But it didn’t stop there. She was also isolated from activities, including being prevented from participating in feeding the animals. For a three-year-old, that type of exclusion is not appropriate discipline—it’s isolating and confusing. Shortly after I had a conversation with staff asking for guidance on discipline approaches, I was reported to CPS. The timing of this was extremely concerning. CPS ultimately determined the claim was baseless, but the stress and disruption this caused my family was unnecessary and unacceptable. Following these events, we placed my daughter in play therapy. During that process, it came out that someone at the school had physically grabbed her and repeatedly told her she wasn’t “good enough.” This was later reinforced when I asked her nanny to help identify who said these things—my daughter pointed back to a teacher at this school. To this day, my daughter shows visible distress when we are near the area (including the nearby farmers market), which speaks volumes about the impact this experience had on her. I also want to note an interaction that further raised concerns for me. The weekend of the Super Bowl, I was out walking my dog while my daughter was home with family visiting from Los Angeles. I happened to walk past the director, who was with another individual. He smiled and acknowledged me—but the director would not even look me in the face. This was shortly after I had withdrawn my daughter. Given everything that had already occurred, that interaction felt very telling. As a parent, it came across as someone avoiding accountability rather than showing concern or professionalism. A simple “How is your daughter doing?” would have gone a long way. Instead, the behavior felt distant and unsettling. What makes this even more concerning is that I contacted her previous school—where she had been for over a year—and asked if they had ever observed the behaviors this school claimed. They were genuinely surprised and confirmed that they had not. As a working parent, it is not easy to repeatedly leave work for these situations. I am fortunate to have flexibility, but many families do not. Ultimately, I made the decision to remove my daughter and hire a nanny, which has been a significantly more positive and supportive experience. I also cannot ignore the fact that my daughter was one of very few children of color in this environment. While I cannot definitively say that played a role, the pattern of treatment raises difficult and valid concerns. Grabbing a child, isolating them, and speaking to them in a way that damages their sense of self is not acceptable—especially at three years old. We have since returned to a Montessori environment where she is thriving again. I would strongly encourage other parents to ask detailed questions about discipline practices and classroom management before enrolling here.
