What California does not publish here
The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

My daughter has truly blossomed at MCH. It’s an exceptional Montessori school where children are genuinely engaged and encouraged to grow with confidence. The school deeply follows the Montessori philosophy, and we’ve seen so much independence, curiosity, and joy develop in our daughter since she joined. All of the teachers are incredible, especially the head teachers who each bring over 25 years of experience to the classroom. I’d love to especially recognize Kathleen, the head teacher in my daughter’s class—she is patient, kind, and simply a wonderful educator. We feel so grateful for the impact she has had on our daughter. The administration is also incredibly organized and supportive, making the entire experience smooth and welcoming. We feel very lucky to be part of the MCH community and couldn’t recommend it more.
Zainab Khan AllawalaDec 9, 2025I have two children at MCH and the experience has been wonderful. My older son is now in kindergarten and was incredibly prepared by his time at MCH. My younger son is in his second year and loves attending; he runs into the school at drop off without a backwards glance. The teachers are amazing - gentle but firm and so knowledgeable (the two head teachers have over 25 years of experience each). Every time I volunteer at the school, I am still impressed by the quiet and calm hum of activity in the classrooms that drew me in the first time I toured. Every single child is engaged in their own work which is different from their peers. The activities are changed out frequently so the children are consistently engaged. The community of parents is friendly and easy going, and the school and social committee plan just enough activities for the families to get to know each other and not feel overwhelmed. The school does its best to accommodate working parents with live drop offs in the morning and extended care in the afternoons. The administrators and teachers are welcoming and approachable with easy to access office hours which can conducted over zoom. MCH is truly a local gem and I feel grateful to be a part of this community.
Karen TsoDec 3, 2025We feel incredibly lucky to have found this school for our child – it’s not just a Montessori, it’s the OG Montessori in San Francisco, with a long-standing reputation, deeply experienced faculty, and an incredibly thoughtful, well-run program. What sets this school apart is the tenured teaching staff – many of whom have been with the school for years, even decades. Their deep expertise and calm, nurturing approach help create a focused, purposeful environment where kids thrive. The low teacher-to-student ratio means every child is truly seen, known, and supported. The classrooms are bright, clean, and inviting, filled with beautiful materials that inspire independent learning and curiosity. One of the things we’ve loved most is how students are taught to focus – really focus – whether they’re working with practical life materials or exploring early math or language. There’s a quiet hum of concentration and joy that fills the space. There’s also a thoughtful balance here – a community of families who go on to attend top-tier independent schools in San Francisco, and others who pursue the SFUSD route. It never feels competitive; instead, it feels like a supportive, respectful village where everyone wants what’s best for the children. Beyond the classroom, the extended day programs are a huge plus for working families. The Friday hot lunch tradition, catered in, is something the kids look forward to all week. And we love that they explore different parks around the neighborhood – a beautiful way to connect with the broader community and embrace the outdoors. Behind the scenes, the school is exceptionally well run. The communication from faculty and administration is consistent, clear, and transparent, and the social events for families are meaningful and fun. We've made some of our closest friends through this school – real connections that extend beyond drop-off and pick-up. If you're looking for a Montessori that’s rooted in tradition but responsive to the needs of modern families, with heart, integrity, and excellence in everything it does – this is it. We couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Prerak BathiaJun 17, 2025I could not be happier with this school. I have two children here and they are thriving. The quality of teaching is exceptional, and the love and care they feel each day is palpable. I call it the "MCH effect": after going here for a few months, my children became happier, more confident and kinder humans. And the community of parents is supportive and wonderful.
Molly Siems CavanaughJan 30, 2025This school is incredible and has only enriched our lives. Our youngest daughter is in her last year at MCH and we are going to miss the school and community so much! The teachers and faculty are amazing and you can tell they truly love what they do. They provide a world class Montessori education while building each child's independence, confidence, and social emotional skills. They provide a true Montessori curriculum, true to the Montessori method, and know your child inside and out. They integrate families at all times whether through circle time presentations linked to your family traditions, culture, or interests or through volunteering on site, you are a true part of a community. Our now 4th grader continues to use what she learned at MCH. Preschool builds a foundation to move you through your education years by creating a love of learning and a willingness to try and MCH does that 110%. I can't imagine how my daughters' foundation could be stronger. As a family, we have built genuine life long friendships. The parent/guardian community is strong and has been integral in our lives since day 1 at MCH. We can't say enough good things about this preschool!
Holli CastelliJan 23, 2024Montessori Children's House is beyond impressive. The top 3 things that stand out are: the teachers, the community and the communication. The tenure of their head teachers is upward of 25 years. Their experience and commitment really shines through when dealing with tough toddler situations. They are absolute pros at what they do. With such patience and compassion too! The community is warm, inclusive, welcoming and FUN. Most bday parties include everyone. Lots of events of all kinds, including volunteer events. It's so great to meet parents who have similar interests and find ways that work for my schedule to participate - and genuinely enjoy doing so. The communication is something we were looking for specifically because it was lacking at the first preschool we attended. Between the app and the newsletters, I feel well informed but not inundated with info. The director is super professional and organized. The teachers are very open to 1:1 meetings outside of regular conferences. I feel super supported by the school as a parent and connected to what my child is doing on a daily basis.
