What California does not publish here
The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

Is this a pay-to-play school? I added my son to the waitlist the day he was born. Now, 2.5 years later, the only communication I've received has been donation solicitations. The school has excellent reviews, but the lack of transparency and communication is frustrating. I also came across a parent's blog claiming that some families make large donations or use other tactics to improve their chances of admission. Whether that's true or not, it's hard not to wonder when there's so little communication from the school. Thankfully, my son is thriving at his current school. He's reading, counting, and spelling, and we're grateful he's in such a academically enriched and supportive environment.
ShannonJul 5, 2026Our son loves Nia and we love being part of this great community!
Iris JuanJun 9, 2025Nia House has been transformative for our children and our family. We entered off the waitlist when my oldest was 3.5 years old (he had already been at 3 other preschools by this point), enabling my youngest to enter as soon as he turned 18 months. Under Nia House's wing, the oldest has gone from a passive observer to a confident leader. Now just over 5 years old, he is helpful and joyful, immersed in deep friendship, learning more than I ever imagined in preschool (reading Early Reader 3 books and doing basic addition and subtraction, learning about the natural and geopolitical world), all in addition to the golden stuff of childhood: imaginative games on the yard, adventurous climbing, singing and building. Next door in the toddler classroom, Nia House and the Montessori model couldn't be a better fit for our younger child, who loves nothing more than doing sequences BY HIMSELF, thank you (brushing his teeth, watering the plants, washing the dishes). (Also, I'll just mention here for anyone who dreads potty training: Nia House guides children through this process in the most natural way. My son was out of diapers completely when he was 20 months old.) The leaders at Nia House are at the top of their field. These are people you just want to stand back and watch and take notes. They lead monthly parent meetings that provide tools to navigate this magical/exhausting time of life. Just sitting here thinking of their excellence makes me tear up. The parent community at Nia House is large and warm and resourceful. Think annual camping trip, hugs on entry each morning, a hilarious, helpful WhatsApp thread, migration from school in the afternoons to neighboring parks for dinner. Finally, the physical environment at Nia House makes me smile and take a deep breath. Our children burst onto the scene there each morning, each asking to be dropped off at their classroom first. The other morning, the oldest remarked as we walked in: "it's just so beautiful here in the morning."
Adeline GossMar 27, 2025We were lucky enough to get a spot for our child here and the staff and parent community are top tier. I continue to be impressed by the care our family received from this institution. Kid #2 starts next year and we are so excited to have another child go through this school.
nick vogelFeb 10, 2025We have been beyond thrilled with the care and education both of our kids have received at Nia House. It's hard for me to know where to begin. My first child is a 2020 baby, and it felt like a huge leap for us to start her in childcare. From the moment I set foot in the school, I couldn't have felt more confident in our decision. Every aspect of Nia House from the physical environment to the way teachers speak to the children is utterly thoughtful. The teachers are deeply knowledgable about development and about helping each unique child find their place in the community. The teachers and staff have also been extremely supportive of my husband and I as parents and have offered guidance and advice when we've run into challenges at home. I feel incredibly lucky to have Nia House as a partner in raising my kids!
Sarah StollerApr 12, 2024Nia House is the most awesomest of preschools! Our child joined Nia House shortly before turning 3 years old and while she initially had a difficult transition to the school environment, it didn't take long for her and us to fall in love with the Nia House community. This school really embodies an environment that is nurturing, supportive, educational, and challenging. Most importanly the safety and peace of mind that we as parents feel cannot be emphasized enough. I also can't articulate enough the community at Nia House. I never expected to make friends with other parents, but as I've gotten to know the other families, it seems like we've made connections with other families that will last well beyond our child's tenure at Nia House. We truly wish our daughter could stay at Nia House until graduate school.

Questions parents ask about NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER
Is NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER a licensed child care provider in California?
- Yes. NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER holds California licence 010205758, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on September 20, 1982. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.
What kind of child care licence does NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER hold?
- California licenses NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.
How many children can NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER care for?
- NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER is licensed for up to 84 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.
How often has California inspected NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER?
- California records 2 inspection visits to NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER, the most recent on December 17, 2025 and the earliest on record May 9, 2023. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.
Has California visited NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER in response to a complaint?
- California records no complaint-driven visits to NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.
Who holds the licence for NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER?
- The licence is held by NIA HOUSE LEARNING CENTER. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Alameda County.
