What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • Our family feels incredibly lucky to have found this special school. Through The Oaks’ play-based approach, our son has learned so much about himself and how to move through the world with confidence and curiosity. As the oldest parent-child workshop on the West Coast, its roots run deep. I’m reminded of this when I wear my Oaks hat around town, I’m almost always stopped by someone who attended years or sometimes decades ago, smiling as they share their memories. It’s a truly magical place that has been supporting Santa Barbara families since 1947.

  • It was love at first sight for us! We enjoy our weekly meetings and the community atmosphere on work days. Established in 1947, The Oaks is the oldest parent-child workshop on the west coast. I was impressed to learn the original members actually built the building that’s still in use today! Two founders were architects, so the rest is history. Your kid will thrive, learn through play, and your family will make connections through the community atmosphere. Just bring your kid, and go for a tour to experience the vibe for yourself!

  • Choosing The Oaks for our children has been one of the best decisions our family has made. It’s a warm, intentional community where children are encouraged to explore, create, and learn at their own pace through play. Tons of space to move, imagine, and engage with the world in a joyful, hands-on way. What really sets The Oaks apart is the cooperative model. Being in the classroom alongside your child gives you a deeper appreciation for how they learn and grow, and the teachers are thoughtful, experienced, and genuinely invested in each child. The Oaks isn’t just a preschool—it’s a village. The relationships formed here, between both kids and parents, are meaningful and lasting. It’s no surprise that generations of Santa Barbara families speak so fondly of their time at The Oaks. We feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a rich tradition and supportive community.

  • Our time at the Oaks with our daughter was very precious. We’ll be back again for her little brother next year. The weekly volunteer commitment and classes sound like a lot of work, but it’s not work at all. It’s time with your young child during special years you’ll never get back. The camaraderie with the other parents is also highly beneficial. Class feels more like a parenting support group, in the best way. I highly and wholeheartedly recommend the Oaks!

  • The most amazing experience for your most precious people. I am part of a family who has 2 generations of kids that has gone to the Oaks. The facilities are first class - teachers are amazing and as it is a Parent child workshop you as a parent get an insight into the most amazing part of your child’s learning and development. Come to an open house - email the director for a tour, come to one of our weekly parent meetings and hear from us how great this place is.

  • We are so grateful we chose The Oaks for preschool a few months after moving to Santa Barbara. Our daughter started as a 2.5 year old and has thrived within their play-based learning environment. The school has a special way of fostering creativity, curiosity, and social-emotional development, and I'm always astounded at the scope of materials and activities provided every week. As a parent, you will look back on your time at The Oaks as some of the most special time you were able to spend with your child(ren). Not to mention the lifelong friends you will meet along the way. The Oaks community has quickly made Santa Barbara feel like home, and I look forwarded to attending with my son when he's of age.

Questions parents ask about OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP

Is OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP a licensed child care provider in California?

Yes. OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP holds California licence 421710362, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on June 21, 1989. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP hold?

California licenses OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP care for?

OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP is licensed for up to 45 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP?

California records 3 inspection visits to OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP, the most recent on May 20, 2026 and the earliest on record September 22, 2022. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.

Has California visited OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP in response to a complaint?

California records no complaint-driven visits to OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.

Who holds the licence for OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP?

The licence is held by OAKS PARENT CHILD WORKSHOP. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Santa Barbara County.
