What California does not publish here
The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

I'm a long time play house Dad I work construction and deal with people daily here is my honest perspective. Ally in the office who took over for Gina lacks basic customer service skills she talks like she's on edge with a very aggressive tone the other lady in the office who's on her computer watches her act rude and says nothing at all seems like they are nickel and diming people charging fees for payments for forgotten sign in and outs we never had this with Gina these people are destroying the school and Ally is in no way someone who should be the face of a school that was ran with love and respect shes not warm or welcoming to the parents or the children her way of speaking to people including the children is like they are in trouble or being interrogated but says she's trying to get to know people that's not how you get to know people not like that. We won't be returning after summer camp and I'd suggest you look elsewhere if you are considering coming back and if you value customer service but more importantly your kids this is what you can get at public school maybe even better.
David LukeJul 23, 2026I went here in the early 80s , Miss Arlette was the best cook in the whole wide world. Loved the atmosphere the teachers really cared
Coco DaleJun 29, 2026Updated: Alicia’s approach to leadership and communication is deeply concerning. Rather than engaging in constructive, bi-directional dialogue with parents, her communication style is overly directive, defensive, and dismissive of questions or feedback. There is a noticeable lack of active listening and composure, creating an environment that feels tense and hostile. The negative shift in atmosphere is already palpable, even extending to the teaching staff, who now appear hesitant and unnerved. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable for someone in an administrative or leadership role. If you are looking for the warm, community focused Playhouse School you've heard about in the South Bay, please beware that school no longer exists. We chose this school for our two kids a couple of years ago because of its unique, family-first environment. Unfortunately, new owners have taken over from behind the scenes, and they are treating a beloved community institution like a cold corporate asset. They haven't even publicly announced the management change, but their actions speak volumes. They pushed a massive $200 mid-year tuition hike on us in January, completely upended the traditional payment structure, and are now systematically pushing out the loyal, long-time teachers who dedicated decades of their lives to our children. Because I saw these changes happening, I did start looking at other options out of caution, but I was genuinely hopeful that things would settle down. I truly wanted my two children to return here for kindergarten and first grade next year. I wasn't looking to find a new school so soon, and it is really very sad to be forced into this position. With Miss Gina officially leaving at the end of June, the heart of the school is gone. What makes it worse is the appalling lack of customer service and transparency. The office is keeping everything a secret. They will not tell us who owns the school, who is taking over, or who will be teaching the classrooms next year. It is entirely unfair to keep current families completely in the dark while expecting us to make enrollment decisions for next year. If they continue to strip away the core philosophy and staff, I don't see how this school will survive. Look elsewhere if you want honesty and stability for your kids.
Adriana Alvarado-BenetteJun 20, 2026Both my kids have gone here, I can’t say enough about how pleased I have been with them they are a great small school with great teachers. My kids loved it many great activities the principal is great I highly recommend.
Mr. Rooter PlumbingMay 7, 2026We absolutely love playhouse ! Both my daughters have attended and love Ms Vera , Ms Shana and Ms Gina . The other teachers and aids are also so friendly . The school is clean and orderly and we love how they display the kiddos art . My two daughters also attended the summer program but my 6 year old did the summer camp . She had a blast and they had so many field trips as well. They provided lunch and snacks in the regular school year and it was well balanced meals . My 6 year old went into kindergarten from playhouse , ready for the next level of learning and was very prepared . My 4 year old is learning so much in pre k and is becoming more confident in herself as well . My 2 year old will be potty training soon and can’t wait to also attend like her older sisters . We love the school and tell everyone about it who is looking for a preschool for their kiddos.
Ravinder ArceoDec 12, 2024I am glad this was a location I chose to send my daughter. She is now a preK and doing quite well due the things she learned with irreplaceable experience.I’m impressed with Ms Gina, Ms Vera and other teachers. I highly recommend this place.

Questions parents ask about PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL
Is PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL a licensed child care provider in California?
- Yes. PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL holds California licence 191602180, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on October 25, 1993. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.
What kind of child care licence does PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL hold?
- California licenses PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.
How many children can PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL care for?
- PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL is licensed for up to 90 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.
How often has California inspected PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL?
- California records 2 inspection visits to PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL, the most recent on November 26, 2024 and the earliest on record October 17, 2022. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.
Has California visited PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL in response to a complaint?
- California records 4 complaint-driven visits to PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL. A complaint visit means someone raised a concern and the state went to look. California does not publish what those visits found, so the count on its own does not say whether any concern was upheld.
Who holds the licence for PLAYHOUSE SCHOOL?
- The licence is held by ABC PLAYHOUSE, INC. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Los Angeles County.
