What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • RES has been instrumental in helping to build a strong foundation of emotional understanding and empathy in our son. Dina, Josh and Dee are understanding and thoughtful leaders who have created a curriculum and environment that help to nurture these elements. We love the focus on community building, storytelling and creativity. When our son first started at the age of two, he was quickly adopted by an older friend who became his mentor. She quickly helped him to adapt and feel comfortable at the school. It has been amazing to see that three years later, he is now assuming more of a mentorship role at the school. His creativity and problem solving have also blossomed during his tenure. We notice that he is always thinking of creative solutions and is very collaborative in his approach, which stems from communal storytelling time at the school. The food at RES has also been a stellar experience. Not only is it fresh and organic, but it has also helped him expand his palette. He’ll surprise us by stating his love for food we haven’t cooked yet at home, and it gives us courage to challenge our own menu at home. The school also has had some incredible guest teachers for classes that he’s loved—from music to breakdancing to yoga. The TK program has also been a recent standout. He’s been able to accrue the building blocks of kindergarten skills in a very play based environment. His love for learning has exploded since he began the program. Dee has been wonderful in crafting such a thoughtful program. Most of all, we’ve been heartened to see his empathy grow. And it has grown steadily since he began at RES. We couldn’t have chosen a better starting environment for our son.

  • River East is an excellent preschool. The entire staff are very nurturing and caring toward each child. They put us at complete ease when dropping our 2 year old off for her first out of home childcare / school experience. The activities and ethos of the school are uniquely intentional and researched. Every day is curated to focus on the appropriate phases of early childhood development. At River East my child is safe, learning, eating well and developing beautiful friendships with her peers and teachers. We couldn't be happier that we found this school.

  • My daughter (3 years old) has been going to River East for about a year now and I cannot say enough good things. It has stood head and shoulders above other programs we have experienced. The attention to the environment, curriculum and each individual child is mind blowing. It is a parent's dream for sending their child to a place that is engaging, supportive and allows them to prosper. The staff are deeply involved and knowledgable. I credit much of my daughters emotional intelligence and strong sense of safety to the school. I recommend it to anyone looking for a preschool.

  • We’ve been part of the River East School community for almost six years. Our oldest daughter spent three wonderful years there, and our youngest is now in her second. We only have good words for this oasis of socio-emotional growth, the incredible food that teaches children to truly enjoy healthy eating, the safe and creative environment for exploration, and the extraordinary group of teachers and parents who make the school feel like home. It’s a real community, one that will always be part of our lives. We recommend it to all our friends with kids in preschool age.

  • Our daughter is in her third year at RES, and the school has been a truly wonderful fit for our family. Her confidence has grown so much thanks to the warmth of the teachers, and she comes home each day excited to share something new—from planets to turtles to (of course) food. One of the things that originally drew us to RES was the shared kitchen space where all the meals are made. The kids get to be involved and learn along the way. Recently, our daughter got to “step on cranberries” for a dish and couldn’t stop talking about everything she learned in the process. The RES team is thoughtful, warm, and an incredible resource—especially as we’ve started navigating applications for her next school, which comes faster than you might expect! We’re so grateful for this community.

  • We had an incredible experience at this preschool! The space was beautiful, mindful, and sensorily perfect - not overwhelmingly colorful and packed with all the things that meet a kids desire to explore. Art was a huge focus, as was movement and yoga and dance and gymnastics. My daughter loved the sensory gymnastics, break dancing class and feeding the chicken and rabbit. The teachers were always kind and attentive and helped the kids self advocate and name feelings. Name it, River East did it right.

Questions parents ask about RIVER EAST SCHOOL

Is RIVER EAST SCHOOL a licensed child care provider in California?

Yes. RIVER EAST SCHOOL holds California licence 198020840, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on May 2, 2022. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does RIVER EAST SCHOOL hold?

California licenses RIVER EAST SCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can RIVER EAST SCHOOL care for?

RIVER EAST SCHOOL is licensed for up to 33 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected RIVER EAST SCHOOL?

California records 3 inspection visits to RIVER EAST SCHOOL, the most recent on May 6, 2026 and the earliest on record October 3, 2023. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.

Has California visited RIVER EAST SCHOOL in response to a complaint?

California records 1 complaint-driven visit to RIVER EAST SCHOOL. A complaint visit means someone raised a concern and the state went to look. California does not publish what those visits found, so the count on its own does not say whether any concern was upheld.

Who holds the licence for RIVER EAST SCHOOL?

The licence is held by RIVER EAST SCHOOL LLC.. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Los Angeles County.
