What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • We sent both of our sons to SOMA over the course of four years. Our older son was there for three years, and our younger son for one. We would have happily kept sending our younger son there longer, but we moved to Berkeley. We had such a wonderful experience at SOMA. Over the years, we built really close relationships with the teachers—so much so that on our son's last day, all of us were tearing up. It really felt like saying goodbye to people who had become part of our family’s daily life. Our kids loved the teachers, the activities, and all the little “firsts” they experienced there. They learned how to try new things, make friends, share, work through conflicts, and grow in so many ways. The teachers were also amazing partners for us as parents, helping us guide the kids through changes, transitions, and the normal ups and downs of family life. Communication was another thing we really appreciated. Between Brightwheel updates, photos, messages, and seeing the teachers every day at drop-off and pick-up, we always felt connected and supported. It truly felt like we had partners helping us through some of the most important years of our kids’ lives. SOMA set the bar so high that when our older son started kindergarten, it was a real adjustment. No daily pictures? No regular drop-off and pick-up chats with teachers? No easy messaging? We had gotten spoiled. And when we moved to Berkeley, it was hard to find another preschool that matched the warmth, care, and community we had at SOMA. We’re so grateful our kids got to spend those four years there. We’ll really miss SOMA and the wonderful teachers who made such a lasting impact on our family.

  • This school is absolutely fantastic! It’s small in size, which allows the children to get wonderful care and attention. They aren’t just a daycare they’re a true preschool that focuses on learning through fun and engaging activities. The children enjoy daily park time, and they celebrate birthdays, holidays, and special occasions together. The teachers make learning exciting by incorporating songs, recycling, and so much more into the curriculum. What really makes this place special is the balance of education, socialization, and care. The staff go above and beyond, and they even use an app to update parents and communicate throughout the day. I would highly recommend taking a tour this is hands down one of the best centers you can choose for your child’s early learning and development. If you’re worried about your baby or toddler not speaking yet and are considering whether a nanny is enough, this preschool is likely a great solution. The teachers focus on socialization, language development, and learning through fun activities. Children are surrounded by peers, songs, stories, and daily conversations all of which encourage them to talk and grow.

  • SOMA has been an incredibly special place for our family and, most importantly, for our son . We joined the SOMA community after moving to San Francisco from Houston, and it was a year filled with big changes and emotions for our little one. From day one, the teachers at SOMA welcomed him with open arms, creating a warm, nurturing, and joyful environment where he could truly thrive. The care, empathy, and intention the staff brings to each child is remarkable. The teachers took the time to understand our son as an individual—his personality, his sensitivities, his interests—and supported him through his transitions with patience and love. Under their guidance, we saw him blossom socially, emotionally, and intellectually. He is always full of stories about his teachers and friends. SOMA is more than just a preschool—it's a place that values connection, creativity, and growth. We’re so grateful to the entire team for such a strong and loving foundation. While we’re sad to be leaving due to a move, SOMA will always have a very special place in our hearts.

  • Best daycare and preschool in San Francisco! Super nice staff! So many intellectually stimulating activities! Low teacher to student ratio so that your child or children are getting individualized attention! Great app that sends you videos and notes about daily projects and themes that the children are participating in! My babies love this place❤️

  • Our daughter started at SOMA when she was 2 years 10 months and is still in the school today at age 4.5. From the very first day, our experience has been absolutely wonderful! This is all thanks to the incredible efforts of teachers Ngoc, Kelly, Tiana, Geraldine, Izabella, and Chloe. Some highlights: 1. I assume other parents, like us, are nervous about the transition from home care to preschool. The teachers at SOMA made this incredibly easy. After dropping our daughter on the first day, she was so happy and really never looked back! SOMA also took care of us parents that first week, sending super frequent, individualized updates to put us at ease. 2. Our daughter LOVES going to school. It's really a testament to the environment the teachers create at SOMA. She loves the teachers and has formed such cute bonds with them. I've heard from tons of parents how dropoff can be a daily burden, but we've never experienced this! 3. The teachers do a great job sending daily updates on what the children did, along with numerous pictures and videos of the day's activities. I continue to be impressed by the creativity of the curriculum. The kids do such cool things. A quick sample off the top of my head: a unit about traveling the world, learning to run a smoothie stand business, various hands-on science experiments, yoga, dancing, etc. 4. Every 6 months, we've had a parent-teacher conference on our daughter's progress. The teachers prepare a whole slide deck just about your kid, including detailed anecdotes (with video clips!) of how your kid is learning. 5. I've never heard of families leaving SOMA because of their experience with the school. If families leave, it's always because of some other life circumstance. We have kept in touch with a few of these families, and they almost universally speak of SOMA more favorably than their new school. SOMA really is a magical place!

  • We sent our daughter to Soma preschool and we loved the experience. The teachers are tireless, creative, kind and caring to the degree that our daughter was drawing them in cute faces and colorful drawings and was talking about them all the time. The environment is healthy and friendly. Our daughter made so many good friends there. The school is very inclusive and inviting to all different cultures and reflects this inclusivity on the kids as well. They encourage involvement of parents of any backgrounds to participate in activities and bring different cultural education to their school. We highly recommend Soma preschool.

Yes. SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL holds California licence 384004498, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on October 28, 2021. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL hold?

California licenses SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL care for?

SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL is licensed for up to 30 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL?

California records 2 inspection visits to SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL, the most recent on August 4, 2025 and the earliest on record October 13, 2022. Has California visited SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL in response to a complaint?

California records no complaint-driven visits to SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.

Who holds the licence for SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL?

The licence is held by SOMA DAYCARE & PRESCHOOL LLC. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in San Francisco County.
