What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • We withdrew our daughter from Wood Rose Academy after repeated issues that exposed significant problems with administration, staff conduct, and student protections. Our daughter has a documented medical condition with a formal 504 accommodation on file. Despite written acknowledgment from the school, her dietary restrictions were not consistently followed. She was offered food she could not safely eat and, in at least one instance, was put in a position where she had to publicly explain her condition in front of classmates. That should never happen. When we raised concerns, the response from administration was not solution-focused. Instead, it was dismissive and defensive. At times, we were told our concerns were "misinterpretations," and communication increasingly shifted toward framing us as the problem rather than addressing the actual issues. Requests for meetings were even declined at one point. There were also instances where unverified allegations were presented to us as fact. When pressed, the principal acknowledged she had not witnessed the incident herself. That alone raises serious concerns about judgment and professionalism. Things escalated further after we reported concerns involving another student whose parent is also a staff member. From that point on, our daughter experienced a noticeable change in how she was treated, including being ignored in class participation. The final incident made it clear we could not keep our child in this environment. While we were at the school addressing a basic facility issue (a broken bathroom stall lock affecting student privacy), a staff member--who was also personally involved as a parent--inserted herself into the situation, brought her child into the discussion, and began directly questioning our daughter in a confrontational manner. We asked for the children to be excused so adults could speak. That request was refused. The situation escalated, with the staff member controlling the interaction, interrupting repeatedly, and attempting to dictate who could speak. Throughout all of this, the principal stood by and did not intervene to manage the situation, de-escalate the conflict, or protect the students from being drawn into it. This is a fundamental failure of leadership. To be clear, this was not a one-off issue. It was a pattern: Failure to follow documented medical accommodations Dismissive and at times accusatory communication from administration Use of unverified claims in discussions with parents Lack of control and professionalism during conflicts involving students A staff member acting in a dual role (teacher and parent) without boundaries We ultimately lost confidence in the school's ability to provide a safe, fair, and professionally managed environment. If you are considering this school, pay very close attention to how they handle student accommodations, parent concerns, and conflicts. Our experience suggests those systems are not functioning the way they should.

  • I can't speak for how it is now, but when I went here 3-4 years ago, my experience was horrible. Poor little undiagnosed autistic me was bullied every day(I was too autistic to tell that I was being bullied and made fun of, so I didn't know to say anything) and almost completely ostracized. One of the kids that I thought was my friend would constantly use me as some sort of outlet for her apparently overflowing meanness. By the end of my one school year here, I had developed a serious anxiety disorder from my horrible treatment by the other students. When I went to a new school the next year, I expected treatment as bad as this school, but no, it's just Wood Rose that has students this disrespectful. Even my reading skill went down from going here. The school was dirty and old. Most of the classrooms were old mobile buildings that were far too small. There's a reason why the school has so few students. Especially if your kid is autistic or sensitive or often bullied, don't send them here.

  • Can not express enough how thankful I am to be surrounded by such wonderful teachers and families. The principal and teachers/staff are so personable and truly know their students individually. My children thrive academically, while enjoy learning. This is a win/win all around. This school has such a positive learning environment for all their students. My kids have made some great friends that they look forward to playing with at school and even on the weekends! This school is a hidden gem.

  • Just wanted to finally write the review that I have meaning to do for a long time now! We absolutely love this school and community. My daughter started at the preschool and is now at the academy for couple of years and my son is at the preschool now. We love the dedication of the staff and the love for their students shows through their hard work and commitment. The kids get a wonderful, loving but strong educational background and the community of parents is amazing. Families come from all over the Bay Area to this school and there’s a reason why- it’s truly a wonderful place for kids to learn and grow.

Questions parents ask about WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL

Is WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL a licensed child care provider in California?

Yes. WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL holds California licence 073406683, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on September 8, 2011. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL hold?

California licenses WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL care for?

WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL is licensed for up to 72 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL?

California records 2 inspection visits to WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL, the most recent on June 23, 2026 and the earliest on record September 10, 2021. Has California visited WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL in response to a complaint?

California records 2 complaint-driven visits to WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL. A complaint visit means someone raised a concern and the state went to look. California does not publish what those visits found, so the count on its own does not say whether any concern was upheld.

Who holds the licence for WOOD ROSE ACADEMY AND PRESCHOOL?

The licence is held by WOOD ROSE ACADEMY. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in Contra Costa County.
