  • Underpays Women. Nasty food. Such long walks. Horrible experience. Will never go back.

  • Our recent trip to Ben Delatour Scouting Camp delivered exactly what we expected from a traditional scouting experience. Set in a beautiful but challenging landscape, the camp featured lots of walking—often up and down steep inclines—which added to the sense of adventure and accomplishment. Each troop was assigned rotating duties such as servers at chow, cleaning the showers and bathrooms. Facilities were a mix of modern flush toilets and more rustic pit latrines scattered throughout the camp. Simple and functional. The camp provided basic medical support for minor injuries or issues that arose, which gave peace of mind to both scouts and leaders. Meals were typical of institutional cooking designed for large groups—nothing fancy, but filling and well-received. Most importantly, the scouts enjoyed it! What really stood out were the wide-ranging opportunities for advancement. Scouts could work on merit badges spanning all levels—from Tenderfoot and First Class requirements to specialized badges like Rifle Shooting, Shotgun, Archery, Rock Climbing, and even ATV Riding. The Scouting Heritage and Camping merit badges were highlights, with the latter including a challenging hike of at least 1,000 vertical feet. Scouts pursuing the Hiking merit badge also could complete the required 5-mile hike. Overall, we were happy our troop chose to come here this year. It was filled with growth, adventure, and classic scouting values. Highly recommended for troops looking for a well-rounded and engaging outdoor experience.

  • In keeping with scout tradition of roses and thorns- Rose- the location is beautiful. Thorn- The layout of the camp is less than ideal. Showers for the entire campsite are located at one end rather than central to the campsites. Activities are frequently a mile or more walk each way up/down mountain paths. Rose- Staff was friendly. Thorn- Understaffed, and in some cases, undertrained. Rose- Great way to avoid Texas heat in the summer. Thorn- 3 or 4 hours farther drive from Texas than other Colorado scout camps. I really wanted to give a 2.5 star rating, as this camp was not great but not terrible. I've been to over a dozen other camps, and this was one of the most poorly run camps I have attended. Also, I did not like the fact that we were in Class A uniform at least twice a day every day during Summer camp. It was too much. And the dining hall was far too small for the number of campers in attendance. Overall, not my best camping experience.
