Sunflower Hill holds such a special place in our family’s hearts. Our daughter still talks about her time there with a warmth that tells you the place truly shaped her. What made Sunflower Hill extraordinary wasn’t just the care, it was the philosophy. Nature is woven into everything they do, and our daughter thrived because of it. She came home every day buzzing with excitement about the little treasures she’d discovered: a pretty rock, a funny-shaped leaf, a bug she’d never seen before. That sense of wonder they nurtured in her hasn’t faded one bit. And neither has the kindness. It’s something she took with her into the world and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful start.
Amy McIlwainMay 21, 2026My daughter was at Sunflower Hill for two years and it was an overwhelmingly positive experience. From the earliest days at age two she did not want to leave at the end of the day! There are so many elements, particularly time spent outside and sweet friendships that make this place so special. Kathy genuinely wants the kids to have a fun and magical experience. She also has a gentle and patient approach to redirection and she is effective. The staff have been wonderful and are warm and friendly and give helpful feedback. I highly recommend this childcare center.
Lauren ConeNov 19, 2025My son went to Sunflower for about 18 months and our experience was wonderful. The staff really instills a sense of kindness and exploration into each kid. They let each child explore their own interests and share that with their friends. Kathy is so caring of each individual student and makes them feel really special and loved! Communication was always very clear. Kathy’s staff really care about the kids and make each day fun. The events that are held often are so very special and allow kids to learn about traditions that maybe they never would have. If you are able to get a spot, I highly recommend sending your kids here. As a parent, the community that I formed with other parents was also very special. So grateful for our time at Sunflower.
Lisa MillerAug 23, 2024We have gone 3 for 3 at Sunflower: our three kids have excelled while attending Sun Flower! Since starting in 2017, our kids have thrived at the "get in the dirt and play approach." We have loved our time here. The magic Kathy and her team create every day with the "treasures" left on the playground, the "make believe" that is so encouraged, the art projects the kids do, it has all been wonderful. The quarterly celebrations are wonderful and give the parents a taste of the songs and play the children do every day. The facilities are great with a large field and a smaller slide/sand area for outside play, large play areas inside as well. The birthday celebrations are so special- with cake and cards made by all the kids. We will always recommend Sunflower to any family who wants their kid to be all the "kid" that can be!
Justin MoserAug 13, 202410/10 recommendation. Our son has been attending Sunflower for almost a year now. We are so thrilled with how much he loves Sunflower, which we feel speaks volumes. Kathy’s team has been amazing especially Warren who is a class favorite. He always plays the harp to help my energetic little one fall asleep. All the staff is very personable, and lets my son be himself. This daycare has a holistic approach which is what really called us to this center. They spend lots of time outside, bake bread and cakes and in the fall will be making soup. My son comes home covered in dirt (which may not be for every family, but we love that we can know he enjoyed himself outside having a great time). Any concerns I have as a mother are always welcomed and addressed in a timely manner and with such respect and understanding of my view and easily calmed by this great staff. Kathy holds some of the best class festivities I have ever been to. Her May Day party was a blast; watching the kids with their ribbons around the pole and folk music playing, flower head bands made it was so beautiful. The lantern festival to show confidence to the children when day light savings came was calming and also a wonderful experience to have with our little ones. These are just a few of the many events happening at sunflower. We are blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community.
Ashley WordenAug 9, 2024Our 2 year old son is blossoming at Sunflower Hill. We are so impressed by Kathy's intuition and dedication to helping toddlers and preschoolers thrive. She truly gets young children, in a way I have not seen before in a day care center. I have seen Kathy and her staff respond to toy stealing, tantrums, hitting, and other normal behaviors of young children with immense patience and gentleness. Kathy and her staff truly seek to understand and come alongside children, not boss them around or control them. The kids spend a large portion of the day outside, in this beautiful fenced-in property in a safe and vibrant neighborhood. It is tranquil and calm both inside and outside Sunflower Hill. My son enjoys daily circle time, songs and books, and crafts (they even bake bread and plant flowers with the kids). "Squirrel Nutkin" comes alive from the book they read, and munches on sunflower seeds outside the center. We have attended a few of Sunflower Hill's festivals, which are a great opportunity to meet parents and watch your kids thrive together. The lantern festival was a time to pause and reflect on the darkening of the seasons, and how the light is inside each of us. The kids each made a lantern and we walked around outside singing songs. It truly is as magical as it sounds. Kathy and her staff have a holistic approach to childcare, which isn't what all families are looking for. The "curriculum" is not structured or rigid, like many schools are. Each family should choose what works best for their child, and Waldorf isn't a good fit for everyone. Kathy provides flexibility in choosing days of the week, and the opportunity to re-arrange your days if needed. We looked at several child care centers in Denver, and Sunflower Hill has very reasonable pricing. They are open long hours, and it is a very convenient pick for working parents. Also, the center is housed on a sleepy neighborhood street without traffic, so you don't have to fight to find a parking spot. Pickup and dropoff are always easy. When we started at Sunflower Hill, Kathy would send us photos of our son and encouraging notes about how he was acclimating to the group. Kathy always texts me if our son is hurt (a self-inflicted scratch while playing with sticks, and a toy sharing incident that turned into hitting), and sends us photos of him with an update. I am so impressed by this attention to my child's safety, and trust Kathy immensely. Kathy has asked for feedback from parents in several of her weekly emails, and shows genuine humility and a desire to continue changing and adapting as needed. Though I don't pretend to know half as much about raising young children as Kathy, I wouldn't hesitate to speak to her if I had any concerns. The staff are fantastic, our son especially loves Warren who sings cowboy songs to him and is so attentive to his language development. We are overjoyed that our son is blossoming here. He comes home from school each day chatting about his friends, and has started pretend play at just over 2 years old, which speaks to how healthy and supportive this center is for his imagination.
