Berndatte MacarthurNov 7, 2019I have two children with a total of 3 years experience with the Headstart in Fannin county. I've enjoyed three different classrooms with 6 different teachers (the main teacher and assistant teacher for each room). My experience with this school far exceeds my expectations. Every teacher I've had has been knowledgeable, kind, and always willing to discuss my children. This school balances healthy choices with having fun. At no point have my children been nervous or scared to go to school (unlike other schools I have tried). My kids show excitement in attending, pride in their school work and sadness when the end of the year approaches and they have to say goodbye to their teachers. I've gotten to know a few of the other parents and grandparents, which makes this school feel like a large family. Of course, you'll always encounter parents that don't participate, but I have found that parents at this school really seem to get involved with their classrooms. I've carried friendships with other parents that started at Headstart into the elementary school. I feel comfortable leaving my children at this school and I am blown away at how much they have learned at such an early age. I would recommend Fannin County Headstart to any parent and if I had a third child, I would send them here!
Blue Ridge Coin ShopMay 2, 2019If I could put zero stars I would. I chose to pull my son from this school. It was his first year & it was absolute HELL. He had 3 injuries in just the few months he was there. He had 2 head injuries & a cut all the way across his arm. No one ever called to inform me nor did they do an incident report on any of them. I specifically requested them to do one on his last head injury & they refused. Their excuse what that the other child in question said he didn't hit my son in the head. Either way my son was hurt & they just didn't want to do their job. Plus, he was CONSTANTLY sick. I understand that kids get sick when they first start school but this was ridiculous. He was sick almost every week! It seems as though they only care about the money because they don't seem to send the sick kids home. What topped it off was that when my son got the flu, for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, I told him if he was fever free the day before his class had their Valentines Day party I would take him. He was fever free so I held my word up. When we showed up at the time his party was supposed to start according to the paper that was sent home they already had the party apparently & had some stuff left over. I told them he wasn't staying for lunch & he asked about the cupcakes & he didn't get one. Not only that but they wouldn't let him get any Valebtines Day cards from the other kids but they let him give out his. Another student asked why my son didn't get any cards & they couldn't even give him an answer. So, we had a meeting with the head director Sherry Moore to try to resolve the issue. She made up excuses for everything! Even the incident reports that were not done. She gave us the option to move our son to a different classroom but told us that there were two children with behavior problems in that room & "warned" us that our son had a greater chance of being hurt more in that room. WHAT?!? Why would I even think about considering that?? Obviously that wasn't going to be a solution so I called the main office in Gainesville to talk to them about the situation. I spoke to one lady & even left a voicemail. I tried to give them time to call me back but it has been well OVER a month & I haven't heard from anyone. Once people started asking why I pulled my son I had learned about others having similar issues to our situation that I wasn't aware of before. Some even in the same classroom with the same teachers. I wanted people to be aware of what goes on in this school. Please do your research before sending your child here! I would never want someone's child to go through what my son experienced.
GraceApr 9, 2019My daughter loved going to that pre-k school! She is 10 yrs old now and still talks about how much she loved the school and especially the teachers! Everyone there made her feel so welcome and comfortable that she sometimes wishes she could go back! Lol😆
