  • The lifeguards rarely acknowledge or greet guests, which creates an unwelcoming atmosphere. Today, I informed a lifeguard that several children in my camp group needed swim tests. She simply looked at me without responding. After waiting for quite a while, I asked another lifeguard if someone was going to administer the swim tests. That's when I was told they don't do swim tests on Fridays. If that's the policy, it should have been communicated when I first asked instead of leaving us waiting. I've also noticed that children are often corrected or yelled at for breaking rules that were never clearly explained to them. Taking a few minutes to go over expectations with new swimmers would make the experience much more positive for everyone. I understand that lifeguards have an important job keeping everyone safe, but professionalism, communication, and basic courtesy are just as important. I hope the staff receives additional training in customer service so families and groups feel welcomed and informed when they visit.

  • The YMCA is supposed to be a place for families and kids however being a nationwide member going to YMCA all across this country. This is the only one I’ve ever been to without a FAMILY SHOWERS. All their facilities are 18 and older and they just have a regular bathroom for kids, but that’s not practical if you take your child swimming you have activities they sweat an you wanna take a shower, NOT HERE you’re unable to at this Y besides that it’s a great YMCA..

  • I love coming to this gym! The staff is always friendly, and the workout equipment is excellent . However, since having a baby, I’ve realized it’s not as family-friendly as I’d hoped. I understand there are liability concerns, but I wish there were a bit more flexibility for postpartum parents—specifically, allowing a newborn in a car seat to stay nearby while I work out. As a new mom, I’m not yet comfortable leaving my baby in someone else’s care, and having this option would help me maintain my fitness and well-being like everyone else. It would mean a lot to have more support for parents in this stage of life.

  • This review deserves negative numbers. All summer my son has told us different things about certain staff, food, and a room they use for punishment that has no ac. Today my husband received a call that my son had to be picked up immediately and was being thrown out for being disruptive and dangerous. Upon picking him up he shows my husband his arm which has 3 gouge marks from a workers nails. Her name is Pam and she has picked on my baby more than once. He also proceeds to tell us she punched him In the head for trying to get back into a classroom. We went directly to the McDuffie county police station and reported her. I am livid and sorry that I ever made my son go there. We trust these people to take care of our babies. Not to mention they are getting paid $150 a week to stick these kids in rooms to sit all day and families like ours with no extended family are forced to have someone watch our children so we can work. Please parents don't send your kids here. I am sorry I sent mine. Nobody had the right touch my child or anyone elses. There are multiple issues with this place. They don't feed the kids the meals they say and they don't take them to do anything. Please heed this warning.

  • The Y itself is great but this one star review (really deserves a zero) is for their summer day camp. If you plan on sending your child to summer day camp here, don’t. I have personally witnessed their “leader” speaking so rudely to the children there. When I went to pick my son up, their lead teacher was screaming down the hallway at the children that they would not be allowed to go to the bathroom on top of many other times I’ve went to pick him up/drop him off and been met with hollering adults and that were personally extremely rude to my child. I went to go pick my son up and the teacher informed me they had been putting my son in the “reflection room” -every day- and that it had no air conditioning? My child completely refuses to go back because of how bad it was. This has been the most stressful experience I have ever had with any child care organization and the staff has no care with cold responses. If you aren’t good with children, why be a summer camp teacher? Communication skills are lacking bad and when trying to have my child transferred to another location or removed and speaking WITH the director about the issues occurring I was told and I quote “well I have full confidence in my staff and I’m sorry you feel that way” no consideration for the situation and no way to find a resolution for grown adults on a power trip. I am beyond disappointed as I love the YMCA Staff at this location but the choice of teachers at the summer camp is sad.

Questions parents ask about Thomson Family YMCA

Is Thomson Family YMCA a licensed child care provider in Georgia?

Thomson Family YMCA holds Georgia record EX-47140, listed as "Open" by Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning in Mcduffie County. Confirm current standing on the state's provider search at families.decal.ga.gov before enrolling.

Why is Thomson Family YMCA exempt from licensing in Georgia?

Georgia records Thomson Family YMCA under the "Day Camp and School Breaks" exemption. An exempt programme is not licensed by the state and is not held to the same standards as a licensed centre or home, so ask the provider directly what oversight it does operate under.

What is Thomson Family YMCA's Quality Rated star rating in Georgia?

Georgia publishes no Quality Rated star rating for Thomson Family YMCA. Participation is voluntary, so a provider without a rating has not been assessed under the programme rather than been rated poorly, and it is licensed and inspected either way.

Does this page show inspection results for Thomson Family YMCA?

No. Georgia publishes inspection and complaint history for each provider by fiscal year, and none of it is included here, so nothing on this page reflects Thomson Family YMCA's inspection record either way. Look the provider up on the state's provider search at families.decal.ga.gov and read its visit history.
