I personally never write reviews. My son attended this school about 5 months. Initially everything was wonderful. To this day I still love the teachers and I don’t mean this review as malice. However, as a previous RBT/daycare teacher I can tell you this place doesn’t have the staff to help kids that need redirection. The school did tell me (and was honest) that their school couldn’t offer resources. Most of the resources are approaches that are required of day care teachers/staff. I have witnessed kids bully my son and nothing has been done. My son would come home sad. I don’t think the teachers are the problem, more so leadership. Being said, I don’t think it’s a bad environment. I think they’re burned out, and can’t help children who require a little extra love/support. If you have kiddos who need some TLC please find another place.
NikkiOct 31, 2025My son started going here about a month ago and has loved every second of it. He is 15 months old and he's in Miss Paulina's class, which frequently works with Miss Jessica's class. He has learned SO MUCH from being here only a short time, I can only imagine what the future years will bring us. We love the frequent updates through the Procare app. We love seeing them accommodate our requests (like providing him with round-the-clock water while he was recovering from the stomach bug) and allowing us to call/stop in whenever we feel like it to check up on him (which we rarely do since we know he's in a very safe place). I find this is one of the only daycares that has an "open concept" rather than closed off, individual rooms per age range. The are separated by half walls, which i was fearful of at first not knowing how my son would do at nap time if other classes were noisy but everyone naps/has quiet time around the same time so it's a very nice set up. The half wall concept helps teachers hear and see EVERYTHING, which is reassuring that there's always some sort of eyes on my kid. I cannot recommend this daycare enough. They've been around forever and after almost enrolling elsewhere, I'm very happy we chose here.
Emily DavisJun 24, 2025We have been part of First Steps for a few years now. Their day care program has some of the best most caring people that look after the children. We have enrolled our school age child in the summer day camp program as well. They go on all sorts of trips and get out there to learn and grow. It is a fantastic place helping your child and cannot recommend the staff enough.
Eric BadeApr 7, 2025The staff at First Steps are truly outstanding. They are incredibly warm, patient, and attentive. They have treated my children as their own and we are so happy we found a center to provide a safe and enriching environment for my children.
Melody NiermanMar 29, 2025My son is almost 5 and he has been attending First Steps since he was 5 months old. He LOVES his school. You can tell the teachers are invested in my son's education, his well-being, and his happiness. He has benefited so much from attending First Steps. We are so grateful to have found a school/daycare that feels like an extension of our family!
Amy HilseMar 28, 2025My children are happy to attend first steps everyday, which makes me feel great! It is also reassuring to see their smiling faces and hesitation to stop playing to go home. Friendly staff helps provide a welcoming family feeling. I love that we feel at home there! After all, isn’t the comfort and safety of your child what really matters ?!!!?

What ages does FIRST STEPS NURSERY SCHOOL accept?

What languages are spoken at FIRST STEPS NURSERY SCHOOL?
- The licence record lists English. That is what the provider reported to the state, not a guarantee that a speaker is on site at every hour.
Does this page show inspection results for FIRST STEPS NURSERY SCHOOL?
- No. Illinois publishes monitoring and licensing reports going back to 2010 through Sunshine at sunshine.dcfs.illinois.gov.
