Money Hungry and short staffed I was charged a wait list fee $50 cool (didn’t expect a spot to open two days later (very suspicious especially since the contract states you all know when a child leaves 30 days in advance) definitely could’ve just said “A spot is opening Monday and there’s no waiting period for your child age group at this time so he will be next eligible for enrollment”…. Then a $155 application fee that needed to be paid COOL …..BUT then on top of that a $35 late application fee never heard of a LATE application fee and my son didn’t even attend the school YET let’s make it make since all to be paid asap before the “spot” is taken…as mentioned before MONEY HUNGRY anyway Not a good option for walking 1 year olds this center seem to lack patience when it comes to children in that stage of transitioning from baby to toddler … His very FIRST and very LAST day attending the school came home and found a long scratch on my baby arm no incident report, no calls just “I’m not sure what happened” like imagine this being your child first day and first child care experience and for background my 1 y/o is not “bad” or “Hardheaded”and I get accidents happen I would’ve even accepted that but clueless No thanks ….Do not believe the hype
LeahJun 9, 2026First Steps is an amazing center to ensure your child grows in phenomenal ways. Your children will learn financial literacy and be in such an amazing position at the end of their preschool journey.
Kristina GrahamMay 15, 2026When my family found out we were going to have to find a new childcare provider for our daughter I was fearful and anxious. During my orientation the staff were thoughtful, empathetic and caring. I was able to go to work with the peace of mind knowing my daughter was in a place that cared. Thank you!
Nichita MasonApr 14, 2026My children have attended First Steps for over a year and I can tell you everyday there’s always positive growth for with my children in their respective age group class. Ms. Brown does a lot to ensure everything runs smoothly as well as to make sure all parents are always aware of anything new or just overall keeping great communication with her, the teachers, and even your children! I will always recommend First Steps Learning Center to anyone searching for child care. P.S. this childcare works with the Maryland Child Care Scholarship Program which has been a blessing for me!
Brionnie WilliamsApr 10, 2026I love everything about FSELC, It’s so hard to find quality child care, I mean everyone in the place genuinely loves children and what they do! I even told my family and friends & now their children are enrolled. They all feel the same. 10/10 I would definitely recommend!
Dejai ProctorApr 9, 2026My two year old daughter Attends first steps early learning center. She absolutely loves it there. The staff is very friendly. They are good with communication. They focus on the personal needs and development and safety of each child.

Questions parents ask about First Steps Early Learning Center
Is First Steps Early Learning Center a licensed child care provider in Maryland?
- Yes. First Steps Early Learning Center holds Maryland licence 1746216018614x794913024917935200, listed as "INITIAL - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Prince George's County. The licence is recorded as Initial - Full, running to September 30, 2026. Confirm current standing with the Office of Child Care before enrolling.
What does Maryland record about First Steps Early Learning Center's standing?
- Maryland records First Steps Early Learning Center's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.
How many children is First Steps Early Learning Center licensed for?
- Maryland's record lists 12 infant places and 30 school-age places for First Steps Early Learning Center. Those are the only two age bands this dataset publishes, so they are not a total capacity and do not describe toddler or preschool places. Ask the provider for its full licensed capacity.
Does First Steps Early Learning Center operate all year?
- Maryland records First Steps Early Learning Center as a "Full Year" programme. That is the schedule on the licence record rather than a timetable, so confirm term dates and closures with the provider.
Does this page show inspection results for First Steps Early Learning Center?
- No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects First Steps Early Learning Center's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
