Thankful for this school and the staff. We send two of our kids here and have watched them grow and love to attend everyday.
Victoria DFeb 10, 2026Although the school year is early, we have been very happy with the process thus far to send our child here for Pre-K. We were anxious leading up the the first day since this was the first time our child has been in an environment like this that isn't home. He has adapted well so far and we are excited to see what this year brings for him! Very easy sign up process and great communication
Tyler TSep 4, 2025There are so many positive things I can say about Hagerstown Children’s School. From the moment we walked through the doors, I was impressed by the staff — they are knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly patient. Each child is truly given the space to grow at their own pace, without ever being held back or rushed. The teachers create such a warm and welcoming environment that the children naturally feel comfortable and supported. My son loved the school from the very first day we met his teachers. When the school year began, he was excited and ready to go — and that enthusiasm never faded. Throughout the year, the school hosted several volunteer events that helped me feel more connected to the community and the staff. Initially, I was unsure about starting my son in school so early, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. He has grown so much — improving his motor skills, becoming more independent, and continuing to develop his love for learning. While he has always been bright, I believe there’s always room to grow, and this school has nurtured that belief beautifully. His teachers are amazing — if there was ever something he needed help with, they were quick to offer thoughtful suggestions and activities we could do at home together. What mattered most to me, and what reassured me that I made the right choice, is how they approach every child individually — meeting them where they are, helping them grow, and then blending everyone together in such a harmonious way. Montessori-based learning is truly the perfect foundation for little ones before they move on to the more traditional school system. I’m beyond pleased with everything this school has offered, and I can’t wait to see what the next school year brings for my son.
Anabel PeñaJul 1, 2025My husband and I have been so pleased with the early education our children have received at Hagerstown Children's School. This is our fourth year at HCS and we are so pleased with the independent, yet nurturing education they have received from their teachers. We also love the renovated building which provides great security for the students. We will definitely be sending our third child there next year. I will continue to recommend Hagerstown Children's School to anyone looking for a excellent early education program.
Natalie BrysonFeb 28, 2019A beautiful, clean and caring place to begin my child's educational journey. I highly recommend this Montessori based school for children age 2-6. I have had 3 children go to HCS, all from age 2 through Kindergarten. The emphasis on personal responsibility, kindness and respect for others filters over into our children's home life. The staff is well educated in the Montessori way and the hands on learning has proven to be an excellent choice for us. New work for the children is changed out regularly, keeping the kids interested and excited to go to school. Topics such as famous artists, classical music, poetry, China, Egypt and so many more teach the kids without them even know they are learning!
Heather RawlettFeb 26, 2019My first experience with Hagerstown Children's School began when my older son was ready for a Pre-K environment. At that time this was not offered in the public school system. Someone had suggested that I check the Montessori program at HCS. We visited the school and loved it. Our son finished his Pre-K and Kindergarten with HCS. When our next son was getting ready for Pre-K I already knew that I would send him to HCS. The staff encourage the children and treat them as if they were their own. It's refreshing to have a school that is able to allow a child to progress at their own pace. If they are advancing in any area they are encouraged to keep going. If they are struggling, they will work with them and help them master tasks. Each child is given an opportunity to be a helper in the classroom. This allows them to be first in line, help with the weather maps and help the teacher. It's a pretty big deal! My son always wants to get to school on time so that he doesn't miss seeing his name up as a helper. Now that they have moved to their new location, the school is bigger, brighter and the outdoor play area is great. The kids often call it their "park". I would recommend HCS to anyone!

Is Hagerstown Children's School a licensed child care provider in Maryland?
- Yes. Hagerstown Children's School holds Maryland licence 1746214649196x536767640984338240, listed as "CONTINUING - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Washington County. What does Maryland record about Hagerstown Children's School's standing?
- Maryland records Hagerstown Children's School's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.
Does this page show inspection results for Hagerstown Children's School?
- No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects Hagerstown Children's School's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
