Mrs J is very good and treats your child like they are hers! Not many people can handle all the energy my son has and let me tell you…. Her energy more than matches his! She keeps the children busy and they learn through play and exploration.
Nancy CowansNov 9, 2023Ms. J treats your child like her own. She always have the best intentions for your child and keeps an open line of communication with you. Before bringing (at the time) my two year old there, she was talking but not very much and then BOOM her vocabulary took off and personality lol. We love Ms. J. A safe environment, a loving caregiver, you won’t be disappointed if you are looking for a daycare.
Kiawana HuntMay 10, 2023I was referred to Ms. Johnnie by my neighbor who enrolled her daughter and niece at Safe Haven. My neighbor went on to explain the top-notch level of care, education and field trips that her daughter and niece thoroughly enjoyed. I visited Safe Haven during working hours and spoke with Ms. Johnnie at length about her program, activities and daycare center. I was impressed with the atmosphere, her interaction with the children and the children’s interaction with each other. The overall environment was organic and the children were encouraged to enjoy being children. Her attentiveness to the children and their individual needs was refreshing to witness. She is masterfully skilled at transforming tough situations into teachable moments that generate positive responses from the children. I was also impressed by her experience, her wealth of professional knowledge and her aptitude to address all of my questions/concerns. The distinction between “babysitter “ and “daycare provider” was made evident during my visit. I knew that Save Haven was going to be a perfect fit for my 3-year old twin boys. They were in Ms. Johnnie’s care for 5 consecutive years, until they were 8 years old. I can testify, unequivocally, that enrolling my twin boys at Safe Haven, in Ms. Johnnie’s care, is STILL one of the wisest decisions my husband and I have ever made!!! During our tenure at Safe Haven, Ms. Johnnie tutored my children and ALL of the children (various grade levels) that were in her care - a task that many would find daunting. Her teaching style/methodology does NOT conform to the one-size-fits-all model. She is vested in every child, recognizes that each child learns differently and caters to every child’s individual learning needs. **Parents, if you have the ears to hear and the eyes to see what’s happening in the school systems, nation-wide, then you will truly appreciate the value and residual benefits that Safe Haven provides.** She reviews the curriculum with the parents in advance to ensure that she and the parents are on the same accord. The fruits of Ms. Johnnie’s labor are not in vain and my children continue to reap the benefits from the head-start that Safe Haven provided. Both of my boys were outperforming in their grade level and continue to excel in all of their studies. Over the course of those 5 years, my husband and I became very well acquainted with all of the children in her care and majority of the parents. Many of us parents would all share experiences with each other about how well our children were progressing throughout the various stages of childhood development. Many of those experiences turned into amazing testimonies. I was humbled to witness some of the parents become emotional while explaining how Ms. Johnnie had made a tremendous impact in their children’s lives and how her creative and holistic services contributed to their child’s scholastic and personal growth. FIELDTRIPS. Ms. Johnnie is extremely resourceful and frequently scheduled THE most amazing fieldtrips and learning activities that my family still reminisces upon with gratitude and fondness. Her ability to make learning creative, fun and exciting is a gift, a talent and an art-form. The fact that many of the families, including mine, remain in contact with Ms. Johnnie is indicative of the positive impact that she has made in our lives. I am often reminded that she and Safe Haven were/are a godsend. Our 5 years at Safe Haven were truly enriching. I am genuinely appreciative for all that she did and continues to do for the families that she serves!
Dana TurmanApr 7, 2023My son is learning life lessons and skills everyday. I love Safe Haven! This has been one of the best decisions made for my son. He’s talking full sentences and expressing himself a lot more. I’m grateful for Ms.J and Amber for being so amazing!
Stacia B.Apr 6, 2023This was the first daycare I placed my daughter in a little after age 1. She is now 2 almost 3. I was nervous but excited for her when starting daycare. I found safe haven through a family friend. My daughter loves waking up and going to “school”. Ms. Johnnie truly takes time to learn each kid and cater to their needs. My daughter loves to come home and tell me all about her day. I love that she goes on field trips regularly, learns sign language, and learns a lot through play. I can honestly tell such a difference from when she started. I plan to keep her here as long as I can.
Daisha JohnsonDec 29, 2021My daughter has been attending Safe Haven since the age of 2, she is now 4 going on 5. I was a bit skeptical about placing her in any program as she was attached at the hip since birth. After much research I found Mrs. Johnnie, she has a wonderful program not only consisting of academics, but experiences and skills that will last a life time. Mrs. Johnnie consistently has the children take part in community projects such as assisting the elderly, classes in sports medicine, Spanish, sign language, and etiquette just to name a few, a mass amount of educational field trips mixed with some fun surprises. She is always finding ways to enrich her students. My child is above her grade level, super smart, kind, confident, talented and always willing to chip in when needed. I contribute a lot of her growth to Mrs. Johnnie's teaching methods and discipline, as it takes a village to raise a child. She has been such a god send for our family. The Franklin's.

Questions parents ask about Safe Haven Child Care
Is Safe Haven Child Care a licensed child care provider in Maryland?
- Yes. Safe Haven Child Care holds Maryland licence 1746223069800x446342972039268600, listed as "CONTINUING - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Prince George's County. The licence is recorded as Continuing - Full, running to December 30, 2026. Confirm current standing with the Office of Child Care before enrolling.
What does Maryland record about Safe Haven Child Care's standing?
- Maryland records Safe Haven Child Care's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.
How many children is Safe Haven Child Care licensed for?
- Maryland's record lists 1 infant place and 11 school-age places for Safe Haven Child Care. Those are the only two age bands this dataset publishes, so they are not a total capacity and do not describe toddler or preschool places. Ask the provider for its full licensed capacity.
Does Safe Haven Child Care operate all year?
- Maryland records Safe Haven Child Care as a "Full Year" programme. That is the schedule on the licence record rather than a timetable, so confirm term dates and closures with the provider.
Does this page show inspection results for Safe Haven Child Care?
- No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects Safe Haven Child Care's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
