We’ve been with the Rockville shoe for 2.5 years now and have had such a positive experience. It’s exactly what we hoped for- kind teachers that really care about and are invested in your children’s development, communicative and proactive front office staff, and a nice sense of community. Would highly recommend!
Steffi PappasMay 7, 2026Our son was here in the 1-2 y.o. classroom. We absolutely loved his teachers and felt he was in the best care. Highly recommend
JessicaApr 25, 2026The Shoe has been a wonderful place for our son. The teachers are genuinely loving and attentive, and the lessons are creative, engaging, and thoughtfully planned. I really appreciate the child-centered approach to teaching and child development. The Director is incredibly helpful and collaborative, always willing to meet, talk things through, and share useful resources to support our child’s growth. We feel confident knowing our son is safe, supported, and learning in such a positive environment. As a working parent, it is also a huge benefit that they remain open when MCPS is closed. They share a calendar at the beginning of the year with closures and there are no surprises. We are very grateful to be part of The Shoe community.

Lauren HowardJan 4, 2026I cannot say enough nice things about the Shoe. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, the teachers are truly fantastic and go above and beyond.
Sam RoseDec 31, 2025We have used the shoe for childcare for both of my children. Each attended from infancy thru preschool graduation. We truly loved our time at the Shoe. There was a true sense of community and I always stayed in the know on what was going on at the center. The school promotes play based learning, supports diversity and inclusiveness and really supports each child in a catered way I don’t believe they would have received elsewhere. The school strives off of routine, owning responsibility and promoting confidence from a young age. The teachers all have long tenures which speaks to the work culture, pay and benefits. This promotes long standing relationships, even with older siblings once they graduate. I will happily promote the shoe to anyone who will listen - the school has been an integral part of my children’s growth, learning and kindergarten readiness. The school is expensive compared to most we toured, but it was a price we were willing to pay for convenience and the reality that our children spent a majority of their days at the school during their most formative years.

Questions parents ask about The Children in the Shoe
Is The Children in the Shoe a licensed child care provider in Maryland?
- Yes. The Children in the Shoe holds Maryland licence 1746215311022x919210278960942200, listed as "CONTINUING - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Montgomery County. The licence is recorded as Continuing - Full, running to November 30, 2027. Confirm current standing with the Office of Child Care before enrolling.
What does Maryland record about The Children in the Shoe's standing?
- Maryland records The Children in the Shoe's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.
How many children is The Children in the Shoe licensed for?
- Maryland's record lists 24 infant places for The Children in the Shoe. Those are the only two age bands this dataset publishes, so they are not a total capacity and do not describe toddler or preschool places. Ask the provider for its full licensed capacity.
Does The Children in the Shoe operate all year?
- Maryland records The Children in the Shoe as a "Full Year" programme. That is the schedule on the licence record rather than a timetable, so confirm term dates and closures with the provider.
Does this page show inspection results for The Children in the Shoe?
- No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects The Children in the Shoe's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
