  • Winchester has been a godsend for my son and truly a hidden gem. He’s grown up here at Winchester, and all of his teachers have provided a perfect blend of flexibility and challenge to help him grow. Incredibly accommodating while always believing and reminding him (and us!) that he can work at and try new things even if they seem intimidating at first. They’ve taken the time to know and understand him, and know when to push and when to just let him do his own thing if that’s what helps him. Love the small class size and the fact that most of its teachers have been there for over a decade and are clearly committed to the school and its students. It’s also a family-owned business whose owners are actively involved and clearly doing the work they do because they care about children and their families, not to try maximize profits. Prices are very reasonable compared to many of the other schools in the area that charge way more, and with much more affordable aftercare and summer care options that we need as working parents. This school is definitely worth a second look, especially if your kid needs flexibility and some extra attention.

  • Our son went to Winchester for 3 years and has flourished under their instruction and care. The skill level of the teachers, combined with the loving nature of the entire staff, truly made his first school experience positive. They are like family to us, and we would highly encourage any family to consider sending their child to The Winchester School!

  • Winchester School is a small, tight-knit community of exceptional educators. Managed by the same family for generations, it has a rich tradition of stability and care. Many teachers have been with the school for decades, which speaks volumes about their commitment. The staff has shown incredible dedication to my five-year-old, while the teachers have created an environment where every child feels valued and supported. Meanwhile, the academic program is both challenging and engaging, sparking curiosity and a genuine love of learning. Beyond academics, Winchester offers a variety of extracurricular activities, including a fun basketball program, exciting field trips, and the much-loved international dinner that brings the community together. Overall, our son absolutely loves it here, and we are deeply grateful for the nurturing, inclusive atmosphere and the strong sense of community the school fosters. I wholeheartedly recommend Winchester School to any parent seeking a safe, inspiring, and academically strong environment for their child.

  • Winchester school has been the perfect place for my child. He started in Pre-k 4 and is now loving kindergarten. The staff and students are all very caring and friendly. They were very supportive during his transition from a home daycare to a more structured school day. The teachers have a fun and thorough curriculum. My child was talking about science and singing Spanish nursery rhyme songs within the first month. The addition of emotional learning during the after school program has been a hit and allows us to have conversations about feelings at home. Their summer program is also fun and educational. When you send your child to Winchester, you gain a community. The teachers, administrators and parents are all inviting and supportive. It’s a wonderful place for your child to learn and grow!

  • I absolutely love The Winchester School! My 3-year-old started this summer, and the experience has been outstanding from day one. The teachers are incredibly experienced and nurturing, and the school’s rotational model—where children move from class to class for different subjects—makes every day engaging and dynamic. I especially appreciate that each educator focuses on their area of expertise, allowing the children to learn from passionate subject specialists even at this young age. As a scientist, I’m thrilled with the emphasis on early STEM learning with Ms. Melissa—she’s amazing! The phonovisual approach to reading has also been a wonderful foundation for my child’s growing interest in books and literacy. The small class sizes create a warm, personalized learning environment, and the strong sense of community makes it feel like an extended family. The fitness and basketball classes are fantastic, and the school’s thoughtful programming—from international and cultural celebrations to nature-based and environmental learning—shows how intentional and well-rounded the curriculum truly is. The field trips and special experiences add even more. Winchester has exceeded every expectation and given my child such a joyful, inspiring start to education.

  • Winchester is a hidden gem. Our son has been going there for two years now and he loves being there! The teachers and staff are warm, genuinely connect with him, and have adapted to his learning needs. Since switching from another school, he’s been much more vocal and excited about what he’s learning and is progressing very well. We love that the curriculum includes not just academics, but also social skills, cultural appreciation, and kindness. They also have a great summer camp! We really appreciate how open and responsive they are to feedback, their flexible schedule, and the overall caring, understanding environment. It feels like it’s being run by other parents who really understand what children and families need. We highly recommend it!

Questions parents ask about The Winchester School

Is The Winchester School a licensed child care provider in Maryland?

Yes. The Winchester School holds Maryland licence 1746220814982x131193531694543840, listed as "CONTINUING - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Montgomery County. The licence is recorded as Continuing - Full, running to April 30, 2028. Confirm current standing with the Office of Child Care before enrolling.

What does Maryland record about The Winchester School's standing?

Maryland records The Winchester School's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.

How many children is The Winchester School licensed for?

Maryland's record lists 26 school-age places for The Winchester School. Those are the only two age bands this dataset publishes, so they are not a total capacity and do not describe toddler or preschool places. Ask the provider for its full licensed capacity.

Does The Winchester School operate all year?

Maryland records The Winchester School as a "Full Year" programme. That is the schedule on the licence record rather than a timetable, so confirm term dates and closures with the provider.

Does this page show inspection results for The Winchester School?

No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects The Winchester School's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
