My experience with Watoto Development Center has been very positive. One of the first things that stood out to me was the cleanliness of the facility. The classrooms and common areas are consistently well-maintained, which provides a comfortable and healthy environment for the children. The staff demonstrate a high level of professionalism. From daily interactions to communication with parents, they are respectful, organized, and attentive. The enrollment process was also smooth and well-structured, which made getting started simple and stress-free. I especially appreciate the infant teachers. They are patient, nurturing, and clearly experienced in caring for very young children. It is reassuring to see how attentive they are to each child’s needs and development. Another highlight is the curriculum. The center provides thoughtful learning activities that support early development while still allowing children to explore and learn through play. I also value that Watoto Development Center offers vegan food options for children. It is wonderful to see a childcare center being mindful and inclusive of different dietary preferences and lifestyles. Overall, Watoto Development Center provides a clean, professional, and caring environment with strong teachers and a supportive learning program for young children.
Dyche RandolphMar 7, 2026My son has been attending Watoto since he was about 7 months old and our experience has been wonderful. I was terrified enrolling my infant into a center and Mama Ife made that transition much easier for both my son and myself. The constant pictures, videos, and updates through the app and the genuine love and care she shows really gave me peace of mind. She even offered holistic remedies to help with teething. Mama Jupiter is the head teacher for infants and toddlers and she has been the absolute best. She truly embraces each child as they were her own and delivers the best learning styles cater to each child. Because of her, I can not get my little guys coat off fast enough before he is running inside to her. My son is now 17 months and is advanced for his age thanks to the dedication of the mwalimu (teachers) at Watoto. With education in Swahili, Spanish, sign language, reading, writing, recognition and so much more, I’m positive my little one will be beyond ready when it’s time to enroll him in elementary school. Let me not forget about the meals provided! Healthy, vegan meals prepared right there in the center! And I never had any issues with them preparing my frozen breast milk when we started out. If you’re looking for a family oriented place that is dedicated to helping your child grow mentally and physically, this is the place you want to enroll your child! Bonus* They also offer COR and other classes to families of the center!
NikiaFeb 16, 2026I have 2 grandsons who attend Watoto. This morning, one of my grandsons was behaving differently due to the onset of an illness. I thank Watoto staff for their discernment and compassion. Due to their discernment, I was able to treat my grandson with medication. Later in the day, my grandson was able to eat his protein oatmeal with bananas, drink coconut water and sleep peacefully. He is now up playing and singing. My husband and I are convinced that our most precious babies are in the right place. Thank you again Watoto village.
Monique McnairMar 27, 2025Watoto development center has offered a great experience for my 2 toddlers on their educational journey. Watoto is daycare plus more. Everyone is genuinely attentive to our needs and care for children as if they were their own. Staff do a good job of mixing the academic and social development with a good balance of structure and free play. Our children are learning a lot and they enjoy going. There is consistent communication from teachers and they use multiple methods to reach out to you. I've saved the 2 best things for last. First, this institution is wonderfully different from others in it's adoption of an African centered approach as a foundation for it's socio-educational model. I think this is a must especially in the early formative years as children form their identity. Second, parents are eager to get involved offering support in their strong suits and also making connections with other families that go beyond the school day. This truly is a village. Overall a very positive experience that I would recommend to other families.
GarrethJul 15, 2024To whom it may concern The Watoto Development center has been a blessing to our family. the growth that I've seen in my son Nyota has been amazing. His excitement when we drop him off creates great comfort I have in the hands I leave him to.the staff are active and very supportive in notifying me of his progress and areas for me to work with him with. I get meal up dates every day with pictures. The quality of education I see in my son amazes me, he is two years old. He knows some sign language some Swahili words and Spanish. He recognizes all of his colors, shapes, and knows his ABCs.. I would recommend to anyone to enroll their child into their child care. Sincerely William Dempsey
William DempseyJul 1, 2024This school has been a blessing to my family. My children are learning sign language, African language, Spanish and being taught advanced English. I am so impressed because they also teach our children African Centered History and culture. My children come home from week to week surprising us with more information. In conclusion I love this place and recommend it to anyone looking for a place that will Love, honor and teach our children

Questions parents ask about Watoto Development Center
Is Watoto Development Center a licensed child care provider in Maryland?
- Yes. Watoto Development Center holds Maryland licence 1746209686289x721163482592702100, listed as "CONTINUING - FULL" by the Office of Child Care, Maryland State Department of Education in Baltimore City. The licence is recorded as Continuing - Full, running to November 30, 2026. Confirm current standing with the Office of Child Care before enrolling.
What does Maryland record about Watoto Development Center's standing?
- Maryland records Watoto Development Center's status as "In Good Standing". That is a single status field in a snapshot, not a compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. Maryland publishes inspection findings separately at checkccmd.org and they are not included here.
How many children is Watoto Development Center licensed for?
- Maryland's record lists 3 infant places for Watoto Development Center. Those are the only two age bands this dataset publishes, so they are not a total capacity and do not describe toddler or preschool places. Ask the provider for its full licensed capacity.
Does Watoto Development Center operate all year?
- Maryland records Watoto Development Center as a "Full Year" programme. That is the schedule on the licence record rather than a timetable, so confirm term dates and closures with the provider.
Does this page show inspection results for Watoto Development Center?
- No. Maryland inspects licensed child care programmes and publishes the results through Check Child Care Maryland at checkccmd.org. Those reports are not included here, so nothing on this page reflects Watoto Development Center's inspection history either way. This page's record comes from Maryland Family Network's LOCATE service, which carries licence and status data rather than inspection findings.
