K* JosephFeb 5, 2024I have to share this here because after I posted it via Facebook the Winter Sun Facebook page no longer has reviews as the director must have deleted that option. I attended the open house for the Henry St campus this past Saturday. I was directed by Jami, the director, to do so after I had reached her via telephone. I had stated during that phone conversation that I needed care one day a week for children ages 3 years and 3 months old. She then let me know they do not typically do such few days, but to come to the open house so we could discuss it in more depth. I packed up my little family prepared to beg and arrived right at 10 so that we could be there to meet with her. After I met her, I quickly realized this would be the LAST place I would send my children. She proceeded to tell me that she would not take my infant, and had no intentions of ever doing so. I felt that she was very judgmental, as she told me that it was very hard on infants to be there for such short amounts of time, that they never got into a routine, and that the kids were then exposed to far too many people and germs when there were too many part time children at the school. Basically making me feel as though she was implying that I would be a bad mom for doing so. She asked me didn’t I have any family around? To which I replied I did not (we do not all have this luxury). She stated if “you’re a parent raising children in this town without family you may as well stay home with your children because it’s too expensive and hard to find care.” It was very inappropriate and I shouldn’t have to remind her or anyone else that there are MANY reasons why a mother may have to/choose to go back to work, even for as little as one day. I then asked her why she had even asked me to attend the open house at all, to which she replied, “because maybe you would changed your mind and chosen to send them more days once you got here.” That comment made it seem as though our money was the priority. At that point I broke down into tears after feeling judged and humiliated and she patted me on the back and said “sorry honey.” I’ve never felt so talked down to and I felt the interaction was handled very unprofessionally.
