We moved here from Denmark, where early childhood education is taken seriously, and we felt truly at home at NDC. Free play is at the core of the curriculum. Children explore and discover at their own pace. There are no screens. Instead, kids play hard outside, visit the Northfield Public Library, and take trips to Carleton College and neighborhood playgrounds. The teachers are warm, attentive, and reliable — capable guides who help children build confidence and self-esteem, and learn to get along with others. I love that NDC is a child-centered world -- as it should be.
Anna SöderquistJun 24, 2026We absolutely love NDC! The teachers are incredibly caring, thoughtful, and friendly and are so attuned to children at the preschool level. The atmosphere at NDC is warm and fun and beautifully designed for play-based learning. It is clear that NDC has put a lot of thought and consideration into how to make children feel welcome, safe, and loved. We have also made strong connections with other NDC families, for which we have been so grateful. Our kids talk daily about the art projects they did, the songs they sang, the friends they played with, and the experiences in nature they had. When our kids come home from NDC, they have dirt on their feet, smiles on their faces, and joy in their hearts. We could not be happier!
Megan FishmanSep 13, 2025NDC is such a special place, and we are so grateful that our daughter had the opportunity to learn and grow in this wonderful community! Not only is NDC an affordable child care option in Northfield, but it is such a great learning and exploration environment for children. Our daughter absolutely loved going there every day and wouldn't want to leave in the evenings. The teachers are incredible, and help kids learn how to navigate this complex world with kindness and care. We cannot recommend NDC enough!
Carly DavidsonSep 9, 2025Fantastic center. I have interfaced with several daycares over the years (with my 4 kids) and Northfield Day Care Center might be the best. Their staff was exceptionally well-attuned to the kids, and my daughter was always excited to go in the mornings (which was not always the case with other places). The staff never seemed stressed/tired out (compared to other places). This would be my top recommendation for daycare in the area.
Nate PageSep 3, 2025Our daughter attended Northfield Daycare Center for two fabulous years. She transferred from another daycare/preschool center in town and was very comfortable at NDC right from the beginning (much less distraught at pickup/drop off and more regulated at home). The teachers are caring and take the time to get to know and understand each child so they can meet their individual needs and help them thrive. NDC has a very low teacher-child ratio and incredibly low turnover amongst the staff – 4/5 teachers have been there 5+ years! We really appreciated the personalized attention and stability this provided for our daughter. One other quality of life improvement that we noticed after transitioning to NDC was how infrequently our daughter got sick compared to her previous large center. I imagine this is due to the smaller program size and emphasis on outdoor time. As a family with two working parents this was life-changing! Overall, we are so glad to have NDC in Northfield. I cannot imagine a more supportive place for kids (& parents!) to learn and grow. We are looking forward to sending our youngest there soon 🙂
Linnea LeeSep 2, 2025I cannot say enough positive things about Northfield Day Care. As an educator of over 25 years and a grandmother whose grandchild attended NDC they are doing everything right. The staff is attentive, caring and kind. NDC is just what kids need....developmentally appropriate and the focus is on the children. I had the opportunity to drop off my grandchild and pick up on many occasions and I loved seeing the joy in the children! Our grandchild frequently said, "I love my school." What more can you ask for? They are wonderful and I am so grateful they were part of her foundation.
