I cannot recommend this school enough. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the minute you step inside the energy is so calm. The mixed age classroom creates a community where the older kids help the younger ones. My son is a year ahead of his peers from his old school in reading and math which is a bonus. The teachers pour so much love and creativity into the class and curriculum. It truly is a special place.
Lauren JamnickAug 18, 2025Southwest Montessori is a hidden gem of a preschool in southwest minneapolis. We've had our children there for four years and are sadly aging out of it this fall. It's a true montessori program, which our children have thrived in, becoming independent, confident young people, ready for elementary school! It's a great option for kindergarten as well if you aren't ready for a "regular" schooling environment. Would highly recommend this school to anyone looking to watch their children blossom in a safe and nurturing environment.
Sarah PumroyJul 30, 2025Southwest Montessori School is the most amazing preschool. The teachers are true Montessori educators with decades of experience. They clearly love what they do. My daughter started there when she was 3 years old and she has had a wonderful experience. The teachers excel at both traditional preschool skills (learning numbers, letters, etc) and also creative and artistic play. I recommend this school so, so highly.

She is excited to go to school each day, loves her teachers and her new friends, and comes home happy and eager to tell us all about her day. We are thrilled with the care and love she receives, and she has learned so much in a short amount of time. We also appreciate the multiple schedule options to meet the individual needs of each family. It is a welcoming and caring community for our daughter and our family!

It's a one-room schoolhouse run by loving, thoughtful and dedicated teachers who provide the right balance of structure, age-appropriate expectations, and loving support for our child. We looked at all the other options in the area. And there are great options. This is the best one.
Brandon RootJul 16, 2025We have had our four kids all attend Southwest Montessori and we have had a wonderful experience! My older kids still talk about how Southwest Montessori was their favorite. They felt loved while they were at school and came home with lots of art and information to share from their day! I would highly recommend SW Montessori to anyone who is looking to give their child a great preschool experience. My kids were emotionally and academically ready for kindergarten, even though they didn't want to leave!
