CAPRW - Head Start & Early Head Start I am completely appalled at how horrible this school has been to my child. A child in my sons classroom has been harassing my son for over a month now and I’ve made several complaints and several attempts to switch his classroom. The teachers in his class are overwhelmed and frustrated with the behavior of several students. But this one in particular has been stabbing my son in the leg with the bottom of her toothbrush (I asked if my son can move spots on the carpet so he doesn’t have to sit next to her, and they didn’t switch his spot or hers) she’s thrown sand is his face on the playground several times. She’s punched him several times and she is always constantly trying to control him and tell him what he can and can’t do. It’s to the point where I have been in his classroom with him everyday until 11 or 12. This child has harassed myself, my son and the teachers several times. Once when she was being escorted off the playground she said to myself and the teacher “you wanna fight!?” She’s told us all to shut up and to stop talking to her. And her behavior is just being tolerated. My son cries because he doesn’t want to go to school and be treated the way he has been treated. the staff in that school are supposed to protect my child and teach my child. That should be a safe place but it isn’t I’ve made several reports to tracy(center education coordinator) , the teachers, Christine( family advocate)and none of them have done anything to stop her behavior. The teachers Are very limited to what they can do and wish they could do more. Ive asked to switch his spot on the carpet I’ve asked to switch his classroom, and I’ve sat in that classroom for over a month watching the behavior. My son is upset he’s hurt and he’s frustrated that he cannot learn because of all the distractions in that class. The teachers have confided in me as to how hard their jobs have become in that classroom. They cannot teach because they have to chase kids around constantly trying to contain the bad behavior. They have thanked me time and time again for helping as much as I have and they have said to me several times that they wish they could do more to protect my son from what continued to happen each day. It’s unbelievable to me how much they struggle each day and how little they can do to help a child who’s being harassed Day in and day out. It’s a shame that this happened at all but the fact that you all continue to let it happen and punish my son and I for speaking up is disgusting. My child and all the children in the school deserve an education and a safe environment and my child has neither of those from this school. My son has been harassed and abused physically and verbally and you all think its a joke and just continue to let it happen. I will make sure the board of directors and the Saint Paul police department are informed of what goes on in this school and hope that you all get the help you need. I am disgusted with how you handled this and how you treated me, a concerned mother who has volunteered time and time again to try to help those kids who want to learn. This child’s behavior should not be tolerated. I can’t express enough how disappointed I am in you and the entire school district that allows this to happen. You all are molding the children of our future and allowing this behavior will only destroy the rest of their generation who want to be better. Shame on all of you.
