I do not recommend this daycare. Not enough teachers. And very unorganized
Desiree BrownSep 28, 2024My children has been attending Kolors Learning Center at 3030 Whittier St for the last 2 years. From the appearance she portraits it's a professional, organized loving child care. After, losing my main job in April 2023 from a car accident The owner offered me a job as she knew I worked in the child care field. Before starting I told and gave documentations that I have to go to the chiropractor 3 days a week, she agreed and we proceeded with the hiring process. Upon employment I was hit with the harsh reality Nina Algee was severely short staff. 8+ in the infant room (6weeks-2yrs) and, downstairs the 2's that almost 3years or older (my eldest being 12years) A total of 15+kids, i was responsible for. As when we went out for free play they would send the 4+babies outside, A hand full had special needs. With only 1-2 staff. Not to mention 2 of them being my own children (2 1/2y and 5y). As you can only imagine to my disarray I began writing new curriculum, making new lesson plans and etc., only to not have time to perform them as it quickly turns into a zoo as she pile kids into the basement. Many becoming injured. My goal waa to teach these babies to walk into Kindergarten with a little confidence and knowledge! When i had time i was tea himg them how to sound out words and sign alphabet. So that their transition would be a little easier. Ms. Nina sits in her office all day. Even when she see's us under water, like at lunch. Days when it's just her in the morning roughly 6a-8a she'd wait until staff shows up for them to eat. Even through breakfast is mostly cereal and milk or a pop tart and milk. I'd notice she mostly feeds them lunchables, microwavable items, sandwiches and milk. Sometimes she'd offer fruit. Unhappy with there menu I rewrote that as well. After 2 long hard weeks I'd get my check and $50+ would be taken out of my check for co-pay fees. After receiving 2 $300 checks I became discouraged and frustrated As Nina knew my situation and pretended to care /understand at the time. I am a single mother of 5 and my husband of 10 years has been in jail the last 3 years. Her Co-pay is $25 a week or whatever you sliding fee is (whichever is higher) aa she has it posted on her door. Which is cool. That is her right to do so. But, why am i being charged $30 when my sliding fee is $0? Might I add, I would get called at 7am being asked if i could leave my kids at home because,we are short staff still making sure I'm signing all 5 of my kids in everday, "To hold their spots". When bring this to her attention her only comment was,"Kolors Learning Center has the right too", in so many words. I immediately removed my kids and she then wants to charge me daycare fees from 3 weeks prior. Even though my children wasn't in attendance. She may had been great at her job once but now she doesn't care. Understandably she's tired; I get that but when you loose faith in your own community. When you forget where you cone from. When you forget the main goal of being a child care provider, it's a problem. How do you tell a parent I don't care if you stay or go? This legit has me tossing and turning. This just doesn't sit right in my spirit. Rude? Arrogant? Greedy? Maybe.
