The owner is very nasty with parents and staff. ESPECIALLY the staff. Don't know what goes on behind close doors, better safe than sorry - I would not trust sending children here because her! Staff are doing everything they can working with someone as intolerable as her, I don't blame them if they all quit.
Evelyn AMar 11, 2026My son Nathaniel ABSOLUTELY LOVED being in this school. We unfortunately moved and he did not get to attend for 2025/2026 school year but he still asks to go Big Bird every morning. His teachers Ms Louise and Ms Virginia were amazing with him and I'm so sad he did not get to spend another year there. He definitely felt safe and comfortable to learn through play. He was excited to go everyday. The teachers were so helpful and informative to me with his day to day activities and his many moods. I'm so thankful for everything they did for him in his short time there. You definitely left a mark on him that he has not forgotten.
Tameka McGirtDec 19, 2025I DON'T HAVE KIDS THERE The Drop off/ pick up on RIchmond Ave. is hectic, I was on the road behind a pick up truck and the Big Bird's Playhouse driver in their van with kids in the van, wanted to pull out into traffic, they hadn't even put on their directional yet and they rolled down their window and cursed at the driver in the lane. Yikes, they have to be more controlled with children in the mix.
Baron Hirsch CemeteryOct 30, 2025If you love your child you won’t send them here. Worse staff , they make up excuses saying your child is sick when they don’t want to deal with your child’s emotions. they are actually not licensed teachers only the owner is . Do your research and steer clear . They have many violations through the doe. Other very disturbing things happen here with my child . You want to see what really happens in there put a camera in your child’s.bag, you will see everything . I pulled my kid out along with 16 other moms . Don’t make the same mistake I did .. btw if your son is delayed they will make you get services or you get thrown out . They don’t communicate anything and if you ask about your child they will say they r too busy ! This is the worst school in all of New York !!!!
Brenda BecombeFeb 8, 2025The staff is always warm, welcoming, and so attentive to every detail. I feel confident knowing our baby is in safe hands.” I love how they take time to update us with photos and details of our baby’s day.” I highly recommend Big Bird Playhouse to any parent looking for a safe, loving, and enriching place for their child.”

Questions parents ask about BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE
Is BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE a licensed child care provider in New York?
- Yes. BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE holds New York registration 73845, listed as "REGISTRATION" by the Office of Children and Family Services, issued on April 29, 2024 and current through April 28, 2028. Confirm current standing with OCFS before enrolling.
What kind of child care is BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE?
- New York licenses BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE as a School-Age Child Care (SACC), which is care for school-age children outside school hours. The category comes from the state's own register, not from the provider.
What ages does BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE care for?

Which school district is BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE in?
- BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE sits in the Richmond 31 school district, in Staten Island County. New York records the district on the licence, which matters for school-age care and transport.
Does this page show inspection results for BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE?
- No. New York's public child care roster carries no violation or inspection fields, and no separate statewide dataset of them was found, so nothing here reflects BIG BIRD'S PLAYHOUSE's inspection history either way. Look the provider up in the OCFS child care search to read its violations and whether they were corrected.
