I recently joined the Long Island City YMCA, and overall I've had a positive experience. The facility offers a good variety of equipment, an indoor pool, fitness classes, and programs for all ages, making it a great option for individuals and families. What stood out to me the most was the welcoming atmosphere. Most of the staff are friendly, helpful, and create a community-oriented environment that makes working out feel comfortable rather than intimidating. The swimming programs and group classes also seem to be very popular, and it's easy to see why so many members enjoy them. That said, there are definitely areas that could be improved. During busy hours the gym can become crowded, making it difficult to access certain equipment or find space in the pool. Some parts of the facility, especially the locker rooms and bathrooms, could use more frequent cleaning and maintenance, and a few pieces of equipment appear to need repairs. Better supervision in the fitness area during peak times would also improve the overall experience. Overall, I think the Long Island City YMCA is a solid neighborhood gym that offers good value because of its wide range of programs and friendly community. While it's not perfect and there is room for improvement, it's still a good place to stay active, swim, and work toward your fitness goals.
Rabah CheboutJul 10, 2026Gym is good, but there's a manager named Warren who was extremely rude, barging into the locker room and yelling at us because it was 5 minutes after 10. We didn't understand what he was yelling about at first since we were in the shower, then he came in again and yelled at our face. A lot of the people who go here are also rude to others and will walk around fully naked in the locker rooms.
Radeef ChowdhuryJun 27, 2026You guys need to step it up. Renovations are needed throughout the gym from the lazy touch ups with plaster to the bathroom doors that don’t close in the weight area. Machines for the most part are great but the cardio room post equipment replacement has been left bare. Clearly several machines were taken and never replaced. Big opportunity to put multiple leg machines as they are always in use. And lastly please fix the sled machine in the weight room. It has not worked for over two years. The charger you bought for it is incorrect.
Cristian -May 27, 2026The worst manager Y in the country. AC has been broken for more than 5 years. Dimmed lights to save on electricity! Broken walls and squeaky equipment for years. Only kids with attitude and poor customer service work front desk. Complaints are met with a dismissal. Crowded all day (high schools use cardio room as gym class every day). Worse every year. Member for 10+ years 😢
Dave DynakMay 19, 2026Swimming laps has always been my therapy, and finding this pool was like striking gold! Finding decent pool space in the city is usually a nightmare of crowded lanes and dirty water. This branch has a fantastic setup with dedicated lanes for different speeds, which stops so much frustration before it even starts. The lifeguards actually enforce the rules too, so you do not get stuck behind someone floating in the fast lane. It is just a highly organized, clean, and respectful place to swim. I absolutely love coming here every morning.
Julia WąsikMay 4, 2026After leaving the city, I'd personally gone in to make sure my membership was cancelled. Low & behold, they still kept charging my account. I was told by front desk to reach out to Joyce Fentang who apparently is the membership director and the person to resolve...nothing. despite following ups, I got no response. Raising this higher, it took Sabrina Snyder to acknowledge, respond and swiftly resolve my refunds. Full credit to her and how a job should be done. Disappointed with their front staff and membership cancellation process.
