  • I visited this school when I was in town to visit my sister. and I was really impressed by the balanced feel of homely qualities and a child friendly environment. The owner of the school was welcoming and calm as the children arrived for the morning. She was attentive to their individualized needs and made sure each child felt welcomed and understood. She was very gracious and considerate towards the parents as well. She was respectful of their time and would give very insightful comments about their child’s behaviors and development. I have visited many early childhood educational centers and have worked in the field for 20 years and I find this school to be a wonderful place for children to learn, explore and spend their days together. Home daycares have a unique ability to balance home-like comfort, familiar environments with positive social interactions and one on one attention. I think this school is just amazing and any family that attends is lucky to have such a wonderful place for their child to make memories and grow.

  • My three year old attends Mossflower Wood daycare. I have a background in child development and worked for a preschool for many years. I have strong opinions about where and who is caring for my children. Alyssa is beyond good. She is incredible. She is the place that takes the time to tend to each child and understands the why behind her philosophy. She is an excellent communicator with all her parents and is supportive and understanding to all our questions and/or concerns. Anyone who doesn’t understand how great she is with communication shouldn’t be given the amazing opportunity to work with her. Many daycares don’t communicate or take the time to speak with the parents on an individual basis. When my child was having some struggles with hitting after we had just moved and we added his baby brother to the family, Alyssa took the time to tell me about the behavior and we worked together to help him through it. The hitting didn’t last long and I felt confident and comfortable with the approach we both worked through. She wasn’t pushy and never over reacted or placed blame she just took the time to understand what was really going on inside his little head and found developmentally appropriate steps to address the behavior. To this day my toddler tells me how he feels and follows it with safe and appropriate responses. I whole heartedly believe he is able to be this emotionally capable because of Alyssa’s continued support. I could not have felt more supported through it. Especially with a newborn at home. She provides each child the love, patience and understanding they so desperately need. She cooks them amazing meals. She fully immerses them into nature, with gardening, mud kitchens, nature walks and outside tea parties, with real tea! She has a welcoming and appropriate environment built for and with the kids development in mind. She not only is an amazing teacher and care giver but she is educated in child development. She knows how to speak to children with respect, she helps them name and work through their emotions in the most supportive way, she understands play based learning and actually implements it into her everyday. I can’t tell you how many schools rave about their play based or Montessori philosophies, slap down some wooden toys and never actually take the time to implement these philosophies or rather educate their staff in them. Alyssa makes sure each child in her care has the space they need to be themselves, learn and grow. My child loves it here. I have dealt with a lot of anxiety around sending my kid to care but not here. I can say confidently that I know when my child is at Mossflower Wood he is having a good time, he’s safe, learning, growing, and being cared by someone that genuinely cares about him.

  • My granddaughter has been going there since it opened last year, and I pick her up quite regularly. I can assure you that Alyssa, the owner/operator, is truly fantastic! She has created and runs such an amazing daycare program that is so nurturing and loving. The attention and care that she provides for every child is not only genuine but astonishing. My granddaughter loves going to Alyssa’s and has learned so much. The way that Alyssa incorporates a learning environment out of playing is very unique. I enjoy picking up granddaughter, when often she’s outside playing with her friends, and they all come up to greet me and to show me the garden they planted (pumpkins, melons, kale, etc.), crafts they made, etc. Without reservation, Mossflower Wood Daycare is simply the BEST and highly recommend!

  • I’ve known Alyssa for a long time and have always had admiration for her. I was impressed from the moment we stepped into her home daycare. Alyssa got down to the floor to greet my (then) 11-month-old daughter and welcomed her to play. She thoroughly and thoughtfully answered all our questions during the visit and followed up during the weeks prior to our daughter’s start date. Alyssa provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the children to play and learn new skills and makes time to get them outside every day. She is considerate of our daughter’s stages of development and shares in the excitement when she does something new or funny. Alyssa is very kind and patient and talks to the children clearly and calmly. I always drop my daughter off in the morning with relief knowing she will be well cared for. She doesn’t even care that I’m leaving and runs off to play before I can get out of the door. It makes me very happy knowing that she’s so comfortable with Alyssa and her friend crew. I get updates throughout the day and Alyssa follows up with anything important during pickup. We are truly pleased with Alyssa and Mossflower Wood Daycare!

  • We enrolled our daughter at Mossflower Wood Daycare a little over a year ago, after a short stint at a larger daycare provider in the Ithaca area. One of our main gripes about the larger provider was that our daughter was just one of many, and didn't receive the love and attention that we wanted her to have. We knew immediately after meeting Alyssa for the first time that Mossflower Wood was exactly what we were looking for. Alyssa is such a caring, attentive, responsible, and genuine person, and we trust her as if she were family. Our daughter absolutely love's going to "Sassa's" and playing with her friends every week. She's been able to create her own little friend group, which is so sweet. They even attend each other's birthday parties! If you are looking for a daycare provider that you can truly trust and rely on to provide your kids with a safe, loving and educational environment, look no further! I HIGHLY recommend Mossflower Wood Daycare to anyone who's looking for the perfect place to send their kiddos.

  • Alyssa (owner/operator) is nothing but amazing. We are so fortunate to have found an amazingly kind, thoughtful, supportive, fun and creative provider for our daughter. She loves going to Alyssa’s and is always excited to spend her time there. Alyssa carefully crafts meals each week for the kids and often allows them to be involved. She has set up her home to be welcoming and comfortable for the kids with all types of toys and activities for learning each day. She also allows a lot of outdoor time and activities for the kids to let out their energy, learn fun games, practice gardening, use their imagination in nature, etc. Most importantly, Alyssa is flexible and responsive to supporting each kid’s individual needs, whether related to diet, potty training, sleep etc. She is very involved in enhancing her business and program through various state funded opportunities, which further demonstrates her desire to provide the best care possible. We can’t wait for our second daughter to join the wonderful community she is building and are so appreciative to have her as part of our village.
