  • Unfortunately we had a very poor experience here. This school filters only for the select cookie cutter kid that fits in. Despite being called Montessori they are quite rigid and won’t let the kids progress to an activity unless a prior one is completed. My son was having some adjustment and behavior issues and we were written long emails by the staff, usually at the end of the week summarizing all the issues he was having. Then on the second week he was suddenly forced to be half day, no meeting no warning, all via email. And a week later again informed by email that he is kicked out. I would’ve accepted that this wasn’t a good fit if at least the school head had offered to meet us once to discuss issues or do some form of mitigation. If your child is spirited this is not the right place.

  • My son attended San Lorenzo Montessori for two years and we were so impressed! The curriculum is very individualized, which creates an environment that naturally celebrates learning and challenges students so they can continuously grow and feel proud of their work. San Lorenzo is a calming, nurturing and welcoming school with teachers who care deeply. We only wish we found the school sooner when our oldest was young!

  • Two of my children had the privilege of attending San Lorenzo Montessori and they absolutely loved it! It is by far, the most authentic Montessori School in the area, and I would recommend it to anyone! Maria, the owner, is fantastic with the children, so knowledgable about the Montessori method and her years of experience as a Montessori teacher is evident! Both my children exploded into reading during the years at San Lorenzo and truly fell in love with learning!

  • We are very pleased with our experience at San Lorenzo Montessori. From the first tour we felt welcomed and saw a classroom that is thoughtfully arranged for children to explore, learn, and grow. Their Montessori philosophy—fostering independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning—comes through clearly. If you’re looking for a preschool in the East Rochester/Fairport area that offers more than just “fun preschool time” — one that is grounded in the Montessori philosophy, emphasizes independent learning, social growth, and a community feel — San Lorenzo Montessori is a very strong option. We feel our child was prepared academically, but most importantly she developed confidence and independence. The teachers are very kind and the program is well organized as well.

  • San Lorenzo Montessori was the best decision we made for our 3 boys. Mrs. Darby and her staff are top notch and do an amazing job caring for and teaching the children. I loved learning all of the things my small children were capable of, from cursive to math, sewing and art. It was an excellent foundation and has set them up for success after graduating from SLM. We really felt like everyone was involved and we (as parents) made like-minded friends that we are still friends with 10 years later! I recommend San Lorenzo every time someone asks for a pre-school recommendation.

  • San Lorenzo Montessori was truly one of the best decisions we ever made for our daughters. Both of my girls attended, and the growth we saw in their independence, confidence, and love of learning was incredible. The teachers are patient, nurturing, and deeply committed to each child’s development. My kids learned not only early academics, but real-life skills like problem solving, emotional regulation, leadership, and genuine curiosity. They would come home excited to show us new materials, responsibilities they mastered, and things they discovered on their own. Even years later, I can see how my eldest’s Montessori foundation still shapes them, in how they approach challenges, how capable they are, and how much they enjoy learning. I’m so grateful for everything San Lorenzo gave our family.
