  • I can’t believe the Educational Alliance at PS 188 Island School is allowed to run Summer Rising camps. This is by far the most unprofessional disorganized circus I have ever witnessed. Children are kept inside the building all summer long without any access to fresh air, sun, activities or anything even remotely resembling camp. Any attempt to speak to anyone within the organization will fail - no one returns calls or emails. The fact that we as New York taxpayers are funding this summer child abuse is unfathomable. If you are looking for a great program run by professionals - University Settlement Society of New York did a fantastic job running Summer Rising last summer. Not only was it staffed by functioning humans, but there was even a contact within the organization that parents could reach out to. And the staff actually sent out occasional emails containing information about the camp, activities and schedules. It is devastating that there is not one single adult within the Educational Alliance who even remotely cares about the well-being of these children - all packed into a hot humid box for the summer and left there with nothing to do but sit in a smelly gym. But hey, I think they promised to take them outside for an hour next Friday if they are good. Inmates on death row have better treatment than this.
