  Highly recommend educational and growth-based play school! Susan and Greg have been such a huge part of my sons life ever since he started going to Play-school when he was just 1 years old. He is almost 5 and always loves going to play-school. They treat him like family and I am kept up to date on how he is doing. They helped facilitate childhood milestones such as daily and consistant naps, eating with the group, and potty training, along with learning numbers and letters. The kids play outside on most days which I also love. He has learned so much and will be very prepared for kindergarten when that comes next year. Forever grateful for Susan and Greg.

  We feel so incredibly lucky to have found Smart Start! Greg and Susie are easily two of my daughters’ favorite people and have a great way of making the kids and parents feel at home and at ease. My daughter comes home each day knowing more than the last and talks about how much fun she has, even though she knew only a handful of things when she started under a year ago.

  Our daughter had been at Smart Start since she was about 3 months old. She is currently 4 years old and we recently transitioned her to a local pre-k program. We went through roughly 30 places before finding Susie and Greg and the moment we met them we knew it was the right choice for our family. They had similar values and a parenting style that mirrored our own for the most part. Our daughter thrived in the structured yet nurturing and fun environment they provided. She still regularly asks if she can go back and visit Susie, Greg, and her friends. My husband and I feel so lucky to have found a wonderful place where we knew our daughter was being well cared for. We highly recommend Smart Start Play School!

  I’m a single dad who assumed custody of my now 3 yr old son following my divorce in mid 2022 and was in a pinch, desperate, exhausted most of my resources and was out of hope. I was referred here through word of mouth by someone who had known the owners of SmartStart in the past. My son has now been cared for by Susie and Greg since late 2022, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have him be anywhere else. They have cared for him, bonded to him, and grown to love him seemingly as if he were one of their own grandchildren. At one point during his care my son struggled with certain health issues that warranted surgical intervention. Greg and Susie fought by my side, caring for him even when he struggled, through good, bad, and even some of his worst days. Upon his return and after his recovery he was greeted with a “we missed you” and a hug. My only “complaint”, and I use that term VERY loosely as it is more so my own dynamics that create this frustration or inconvenience honestly, is that the owners abide by the Oregon City School Districts calendar, including inclement weather closures and various holidays. This factor makes it rather difficult for a single, FT medical professional dad with literally no alternate options and very limited flexibility, to accommodate some of these closures. My family and I reside in and my other children attend a different district, and there have been times where the districts are discordant and I have to go to work and my other kids to school. As this facility is based privately out of a home, some discretion and flexibility on a case by case scenario would by my suggestion to the owners. All in all, if I could give them more than five stars, I would. It warms my heart to know that, while childcare itself is extremely hard to find, that I not only found somewhere for him to be but somewhere that is like a second home to him.

  My son has been with Susie and Greg and Smart Start Play school starting at 2 yrs and hase been there for over 2.5 years, and will be there for a total of 3.5 years until he starts kindergarten. The school has been great. We share the same parenting principals, and appreciate everything they do to help raise well behaved kids. He's always ready to go in the morning to play with his friends, and sometimes it can be hard to get him to want to leave. They have a great range of kids which has been great for him to learn. I'm amazed how much he learns there. I would recommend to everyone!
