We had a nice time visiting the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The museum was clean, well-maintained, and had plenty of interactive exhibits that kept our daughter entertained. Coming from Buffalo, we have a great children’s museum of our own, and while Pittsburgh’s museum was definitely larger and more elaborate, I don’t necessarily think it was a significantly better experience. Both museums offer a lot for young children, and Buffalo’s does a great job as well. That said, we still had a really enjoyable visit. It’s a fun place to spend a few hours with kids, and there was enough variety to keep everyone engaged. While it wasn’t the best children’s museum we’ve ever visited, it’s certainly worth checking out if you’re in Pittsburgh with young children. Overall, it was a very nice experience, and we’re glad we went.
Justin WeacklerJul 13, 2026Great place for kids of a variety of ages. I had my 2 yr old and 5 yr old and could find appropriate activities for both and many they could do together. This is downtown Pittsburgh so the activities are spread throughout several rooms on a few floors. Top floor has water activities bring a bathing suite if you want to partake. There are aprons to use in a pinch.
Tyler FosterJul 6, 2026This was a fun experience! Our school had an art exhibit showcased on the bottom floor below the cafeteria area so we went to see that and enjoy the museum. My 6 and 4 year olds loved everything the museum offered. My 13 and 18 year old liked it but ran through everything so quickly! My kids especially loved the water area and I wish we had brought extra clothes so they could have played more. My youngest was soaked by the time we left but he did not care one bit. They provide smocks and have air blowers but that didn’t help us too much. I highly recommend this experience for children to explore, craft and learn!
ChristianMay 28, 2026The museum itself was pretty fun once you got in. I was a little disappointed that only one staff member was available to handle admissions despite two other staff members sitting in the corner seemingly doing nothing at all while the line continued to grow. Buying tickets in advance landed us in the same line waiting with everyone else. I would not recommend going to the cafe at all. I’m sure you will, but whatever you do, save yourself the $13 and do not order the Farmer Parm Sandwich. The menu photos are great, but definitely do not resemble what is being sold at all. The level of deception rivals that of fast food chains. I wish I had a photo of the menu to share for comparison but I do have a photo of what I received.
Blair BauerMay 25, 2026My 8 year old grandson said to give it one star because he liked pulling the weight of an elephant otherwise he was disappointed as were we. #1 CHILDRENS MUSEUM IN AMERICA cannot possibly be true. We drove two hours from Erie PA because it was advertised as #1 MUSEUM IN AMERICA. The Children’s Experience Museum in our hometown of Erie PA is better by a landslide. In Pittsburgh there wasn’t much to do on each floor and the “water” floor was pathetic. I don’t know how else to describe it. A child needed a bathing suit to participate and some little ones were soaked, head to toe, fully dressed. I have a feeling they had to go home in that condition. We didn’t stay on that floor. There was nothing , really , to do for a fully dressed DRY kid. All in all it was a disappointment after driving for 2 hours. My grandson was bummed. So were we.
Laura TinsmanApr 11, 2026Our kids love this place! We have been to the city twice and stopped here both times. The staff is incredibly welcoming to the kids, and the environment is designed perfectly for them to explore safely. I am impressed how smartly the exhibits are designed as well, thy are quite innovative.
