This was my church growing up and now my oldest attends the child care center for summer/winter break and she loves it. She’s in speech therapy and were a little nervous for her in the beginning, not knowing anyone. However, she quickly made friends and grew close with the staff. Some are young teens which I think helps in some aspects but they all made her feel so welcome and she adjusted well. She gets excited every time she finds out that’s where she’s going!
Jessica HarrisFeb 11, 2025Update: There have been many changes in leadership over the last few months. Both directors retired. We found it was very difficult to contact the replacement directors when we were needing to communicate urgent matters. Before the new leadership, the daycare was always accommodating and caring. They were available when needed them. They reinforced lessons about God's love. I pray for all still in attendance.
Katie PegramJun 18, 2024My daughter was enrolled for three years with this daycare. The first two had small instances of them not reporting injuries to me and some minor bullying. Those issues were handled and because the cost was so low, we continued to enroll her. This year though showed their true side. My daughter came home sick from school three days in a week and a half without any sign of illness. On the third occasion, I found out that she was scared to go to daycare because two boys in her class were bullying her and the teachers weren't stopping them. The first message went to the daycare on March 7th. I received a response that they would address this with the two boys and talk to Aurora to get more details. It felt like we were going to work together to fix this. My daughter reported more bullying to me on March 20th which I sent the details in a message to the daycare immediately. Unfortunately, this report went without any reply. On March 22nd I sent another message to report more issues my daughter had the day before. I was tired of this being ongoing and stated that we will confront the parents and report this harassment to the authorities if not stopped. This received a long reply stating that they've been removing the boy from the classroom for "correction" and have been emailing with his parents. However, then the reply took a sexist turn. I was told that the boys are "taunting in what they feel is a jovial way like boys will do" but that "it is clearly being taken to heart by the girls". The bullying in the classroom "seems to be just obnoxiousness on the boys' part" but that my daughter's friend "likes to be argumentative". So apparently the boys are just being boys and the girls fighting back is bad. My ex-husband also spoke with Barbara, assistant director, and she told him that "boys will be boys". We immediately decided to find somewhere less sexist for our child care needs. After telling them that we would not be enrolled any longer in the summer or fall due to their sexist response to bullying, their behavior became petty. They refused to communicate with us, children were allowed to open the locked front door to let my daughter in in the mornings, and then when I reported that the bully had physically pushed my daughter's friend, I was blocked from their facebook group in retaliation. I emailed my way to the Chair of Board for the daycare and got that decision reversed. However, in my opinion Larry is far too emotional and immature to be director of a daycare. Their handbook doesn't include a bullying section. It is clear to me from their handling of this situation along with their wording that they don't believe bullying is real. They never once stated it was bullying or that the boy was a bully. Their teachers are highschool students who mostly go to the church. They are usually bunched up chatting with each other instead of watching the children. I've seen kids hitting each other with sticks, walking across the parking lot barefoot, and alone next to the road playing. Issues like this have been reported to the daycare without response. The sexism, which you would expect some of for a religious daycare, runs deep in Larry and Barbara. During the summer of 2023, they had one class that was girls only and one that was boys only. The girls class did two community service "field trips" while the boys did none. Apparently, boys don't need to learn to care about others in their community. Looking over the calendar of activities also showed that the girls did two kiddokinetic classes while the boys did three, the girls went swimming three times while the boys four times, the girls did two museum trips and the boys did two as well, and the girls did two community service trips while the boys went bowling twice. These classes were the same grades. In conclusion, do not put your child here if you can afford elsewhere. If you run into issues, they say to come to them but they will not usually respond or fix the problem without you causing a scene.
