Guidepost went bankrupt and this location has been sold. They are firing teachers, closing classrooms, and refusing to give families their deposits. It is complete chaos. They are not communicating with families and we have no idea what’s going on. Stay away from this place!
CaitlinJun 25, 2026Serious delay in security deposit refund. My daughter graduated from Guideposts West Alex, VA location in July 2025. Nine months later, we still have not received her refund despite countless phone calls and email follow-ups. At one point they claimed a refund check had been issued and mailed, but they could not provide any documentation when asked. After that, they stopped responding entirely. We never received the check. Now it appears they are switching ownership and are using that as an excuse not to issue the refund. This level of unprofessionalism and stonewalling is infuriating — we trusted this company and they have betrayed that trust. What a shady, irresponsible company.
Alice TangApr 12, 2026We absolutely love Guidepost Montessori—the school, the staff, and everything about it! From the warm morning welcome at the front desk by Mrs. Yifu and Mrs. Tiffany to the comforting hugs from his classroom teachers, Mrs. Zahala and Ms. Dayna, we always feel reassured that our son is in the best possible hands. Knowing he is so well cared for makes it easy for us to relax while he’s at school. The facility is always incredibly clean, and the level of attention and care the staff provides is truly remarkable. We’ve seen so much improvement and development in our son since he started, and we love how closely the teachers work with the children to ensure their growth and happiness. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and highly recommend Guidepost Montessori to any parent looking for a nurturing and supportive environment for their child!
Rediet TekleJan 23, 2025Edited- to 3 stars. See below. Original post fall of 2024: Our 20 month old toddler LOVES this school. The teachers and admin are amazing. It’s a well balanced day and when I say “loves” I truly mean it. At the end of the day he doesn’t want to leave and often wants us to go into the classroom with him or goes back in the classroom to see what the teachers are doing. The other nice thing is the school has few breaks so there aren’t too many days you need additional childcare if all the adults in your household work. We were at a Goddard school before and this is just a step above. You do pay for that increased value, but it’s worth it if you can afford it. Your kids will love their teaches and learn so much! April 2026 updates: reducing to 3 stars for now. School going through transition and new ownership has completely left us in the dark. They are letting go teachers and not sharing who the new teachers will be and the switch is supposed to happen in 2 days. They’re also closing our youngest sons classroom and we heard from the rumor mill- they still haven’t formally let us know it’s closing and will leave 8 infants without care- parents will likely stuck without childcare with less than 30 days to figure something new out. I will update this review once we see how they handle this situation- but right now this school/daycare is a mess- do not send your child. Wait until the new admin sorts everything out and will update if it’s still a good school. New name will be owned by MCV schools- and I believe something like illuminate Montessori for the new name.
Cole and Maria VanceJan 4, 2025My son has been going Guidepost Montessori at West Alex since 2022. It is been great 2 years. Staffs are very friendly and always ready to help whenever we have questions. Especially I love thier Spanish classes. I believe kid can learn as many languages only we provide them. When he started his Spanish class Toddler 8 and eventually transferred to Children house 5 which is Spanish class for big kid, he was speaking only Mongolian. Now he could speak Spanish and English simultaneously. He understands difference which is amazing. I love how teachers (Ms.Maria been his teacher over year and half) very calm and never annoyed. Ms.Maria is great teacher with integrity, professional and kindhearted. My sons journey with Children house 5 and Ms. Maria noting but wonderful.
TSATSANov 19, 2024As a parent who had two older children at AMI and AMS affiliated schools (all the way through 5th grade!), I was skeptical when I first enrolled my daughter at Guidepost, could corporate montessori really BE Montessori? But it was the best option available, so I gave it a try, figuring I'd move her once she was old enough to enter a 'proper' Montessori school. 4 years later...she's still there and I am so VERY glad I took the chance. She is absolutely thriving and the environment in Children's House is very similar to what I was used to seeing for my older kids. The staff is warm and loving, the curriculum follows the Montessori principles, the documentation and communication is excellent and it has been a great community for her and our family. Her lead guide, Maria, is honestly one of the best, calmest, warmest teachers I have ever met. She is very knowledgeable about the curriculum and has a deep, loving understanding of every single child in her classroom, my daughter adores her and I do too! I honestly do not know how she manages everything, especially since the classroom is Spanish immersion, so everything is done in both Spanish and English. The other guides we interact with are also excellent (shout out to Ms Sarah!), but we definitely lucked out with Ms Maria. My daughter loves going to school and excitedly tells me about all the work she does every day. There have been some admin challenges and staff turnover, but nothing that affected the experience in the classroom, just some frustration on the parent side of things. With 3 kids and a total of 8 schools over the years, I'm no stranger to admin and staff challenges. It feels like the school is on the right track now, implementing more parent involvement and transparency.
