Our daughter had a wonderful experience at MKU in the 3-5 year old Casa class! Friendly and caring staff, appropriately structured schedules, access to the park and playground, and super convenient for Cameron Station families!
Allison HarveyJun 3, 2026We knew MKU Cameron Square was the right place for our daughter the day we visited their office for a meeting with the owner, Joy Nash, and the then director. That was about 4 years ago when we were researching to find the best daycare for her. We knew we found the right place because our daughter started venturing around the office hallways proactively and freely. We didn't worry about the little one walking out of the office we were in because it was clear the whole facility is a safe, infant friendly place. Over the years, our daughter blossomed in all aspects; she made lovely friends, grew in all parameters nurtured by the loving and wonderful teachers and the rest of the MKU family. I don't remember a day our daughter cried when being dropped off in the morning except for few seasonal grumpy mornings. I am sure it has been a wonderful early childhood journey that she would treasure for years to come, if not throughout her life. We, as parents, will always remember MKU Cameron Square for giving our daughter the foundations that I believe will be assets in her life. Finally, I should mention that Joy's kindness and generosity is a reminder that humanity is blessed by the presence of such wonderful souls as her's in our midst.
Omer RediJun 2, 2026By far the worst experience we’ve had with a preschool. Our son began expressing repeated concerns about interactions he was having with another child in his class. After hearing the same complaints multiple times, I reached out to his teacher. Rather than addressing the concerns directly, the conversation quickly shifted to criticism of my child. I was told he struggled to listen and that other children did not want to interact with him because they were focused on their work. What was particularly frustrating was that every day at pickup I asked how my son’s day had gone, and every day I was told he had a good day. Neither my husband nor I were ever informed of any behavioral concerns until we raised concerns of our own. This became a pattern throughout our time at the school. Any concern we brought forward was met with a list of concerns they supposedly had about our child, despite our repeated requests to be notified when issues occurred. As the concerns continued, we met with our son’s teacher and the owner, Joy. During that meeting we were presented with a list of complaints including difficulty sitting still, singing while working, and running or jumping in the classroom. Joy then suggested that our son be evaluated for ADHD. Although I was surprised by the recommendation, I took it seriously and scheduled an appointment with his pediatrician. Our pediatrician expressed concern that an unlicensed administrator would suggest a diagnosis and explained that the behaviors described were developmentally appropriate for his age. She also advised that many physicians are cautious about diagnosing ADHD in children as young as four because these behaviors are often normal childhood behavior. At that point, much of our trust in the administration had been lost. Because we were close to the end of the school year, we requested a classroom change in hopes of finishing out the year on a positive note. Unfortunately, the same issues continued. I began receiving messages from Joy stating that she happened to be in the classroom and observed my son misbehaving. However, when I spoke directly with his teacher the following day, she appeared confused and reported that he had been having a great week and was a good listener. The final incident was the last straw. I was informed that my son had called another child an inappropriate name and was asked to sign an incident report. When I arrived, my son was crying and showed me a significant bite mark on his arm. He explained that the same child he had repeatedly reported problems with had bitten him after hitting him. According to my son, he responded by calling the child a “poopy head.” What I found most concerning was that my child received documentation for name calling, yet there was no incident report provided for the bite, no communication about the injury, and no indication that the situation had been handled appropriately. While discussing the incident, I personally observed the same child acting aggressively toward another child. Not every teacher we encountered was a problem. There were several caring and wonderful educators who clearly cared about the children. Unfortunately, our experience with the administration left us with little confidence in the school’s communication, consistency, and ability to address ongoing concerns fairly. We ultimately withdrew our son before the end of the year and forfeited the tuition we had already paid because we no longer felt comfortable having him attend. I cannot recommend this school based on our experience.
Ashley SymnsJun 1, 2026Our daughter went through the PK class at MKU after transferring from a daycare environment. We saw her grow incredibly in a short amount of time and when she went to FCPS she was already reading and doing computation work. The strong foundation of MKU’s curriculum and approach and the incredible teachers (shout out to Ms. Sara) and staff really helped her develop confidence and find academic success in kindergarten. She was also recently found eligible for the Advanced Academic Program. We believe the independent thinking and creativity that were inspired at MKU are a huge part of the successes she’s seeing now - both academically and social-emotionally.
Danielle BierzynskiApr 29, 2026We cannot say enough wonderful things about MKU-Cameron Station. Our family has been part of this community for the last three years, watching our children grow from toddlers into confident preschoolers, and the experience has been nothing short of exceptional. The teachers here are truly remarkable—they don't just teach; they care for the children as if they were their own. We feel incredibly lucky to have had such a nurturing environment for our kids. Beyond the warmth and care, the academic preparation is top-tier. The staff has over-prepared our children for kindergarten, giving them a massive head start both socially and academically. On a personal note, the flexibility and open-door policy have made a world of difference for our family’s peace of mind. It is rare to find a school that is so accommodating and transparent, and it has made our transition through these early years seamless. To the entire staff: you are so deeply appreciated! We will continue to recommend MKU-Cameron Station to anyone in search of an outstanding school and a supportive community.
Geoff KingApr 2, 2026Friendly, supportive and welcoming staff. Our son loves this school for it's warm, safe, and stimulating, school environment. At MKU he feels loved, curious, confident and excited to learn through play, exploration, and gentle guidance.
