What California does not publish here

The state publishes when licensing staff visited, not what they found. We do not hold California’s inspection findings, so nothing on this page tells you whether a visit resulted in a citation. A visit count is a measure of licensing activity, and a facility visited more often is not for that reason a worse one. Read the findings in California’s own facility search.

  • Choosing a school for your little one is such a stressful experience, but Harper makes it very easy. We’ve been with them for two years now and have had nothing but good experiences. The admin staff, especially Ms. Lopez, is amazing and really cares about the students. Ms. Lopez is “on the ground“ enough that she knows the kids names and they all say hi to her when they see her. The preschool teachers, Ms. Gwen, Ms. Margaret and Ms. Kim, are phenomenal. They approach any issues with kindness and sensitivity. They are also firm with the kids and set good boundaries and routines. Finding that balance is typically difficult, but they do it with finesse! The curriculum here, even with the preschool class, sets the kids up for success in higher grades. It balances play and fun with learning. From letter recognition to name writing to “STEM” - via tiny science experiments - music and Spanish, outdoor play and story time, they do it all. Since day one, my child has been excited to go each day and has thrived in the Harper environment. The learning progress I’ve seen, especially at such a young age, is astounding. We love Harper and appreciate all the staff very much! We hope to be a Harper family for a very long time to come!

  • Our son began his journey at Harper School in Pre-K and is now entering 2nd grade. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and growth we’ve seen. Academically, Harper is top-notch—the curriculum is advanced, with students often working a full year ahead of their grade level. One of the standout features is the small class sizes, which allow teachers to give personalized attention to each child. It’s like having a private tutor every day, ensuring students get the support they need to thrive. The teachers are not only highly educated but also passionate about creating a warm, engaging environment where kids genuinely enjoy coming to school. The campus itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and nestled in a quiet, safe residential area of Redwood City. We also appreciate that Harper is a private, non-religious school focused solely on delivering a strong, well-rounded education. Additional perks include the option for flexible schedules, extended care, and a thoughtfully designed summer camp program that features new themes each week. Uniforms help simplify mornings, and financial aid is available for families who need it. If you're a parent looking to spark a lifelong love of learning in your child, Harper School is an incredible choice. We highly recommend it!

  • My older son attended Harper for half a year in 2023 and my younger one is in the toddler class since last summer. We are extremely happy with the quality of the teachers they hired, also the huge space /facility they have. We have been through many daycares preschools in the area and by far this is the best experience, even though the tuition is on a higher side, but recently with free lunch included it’s a big value added!

  • Harper School in Redwood City is outstanding. My kid joined the toddler class at Harper School and has experienced tremendous growth. Harper school offers endless educational and fun activities for the kids. Besides well-planned and well-attended events during holidays such as Halloween and Christmas, my kid brings home beautiful and creative art works almost every day. You can tell how much fun the kids are having from the pictures sent to parents by the teachers frequently. All the teachers and staff are loving and attentive. My child runs into the teachers' arms every morning and doesn't want to leave them in the afternoon. The teachers put so much thoughtfulness and love into the school environment, as you can see from the decorations and instructional materials around the classrooms that get refreshed almost weekly. I also like how communications with parents are tech-enabled by the app, where parents sign in and out digitally and teachers send parents pictures and messages regularly. Ever since attending Harper School, my child has become outgoing, outspoken and polite, and developed good habits such as cleaning up toys at home. I highly recommend this school!

  • I wish I could give more stars. Harper has been nothing short of amazing for our active, toddler boy. The teachers are all so friendly, dedicated, and professional. Teh campus is clean and safe in a great neighborhood. I am shocked by the work our 3-4 year old comes home with. He is learning so much in a fun and age appropriate manner. I have seen difficult behaviors decrease tremendously since attending Harper as he is consistently engaged, loved, and supported. I would wholeheartedly recommend Harper to all families.

  • This review is long overdue. We are part of the pioneering class that began at Harper with only 10 kids and are happy to witness its immense growth. Harper School is a beacon of excellence that goes beyond the ordinary. My son Legend has thrived in an environment that not only prioritizes academic achievement but also fosters creativity and engagement, setting Harper School apart with its holistic approach to learning. The hands-on, experiential learning at Harper has ignited a spark of curiosity in my son. The carefully curated activities encourage out-of-the-box thinking, and he has developed a love for learning and new ideas. The dedication to nurturing not just academics but also the creative spirit of each child is commendable. Special thanks to his teacher, Ms. Karen G., for being so imaginative. The engagement level at Harper is phenomenal. The interactive lessons and collaborative activities have made learning fun and meaningful. The school has successfully created an environment where curiosity is celebrated, and students are encouraged to think critically and express themselves artistically—all thanks to the amazing teachers here, who are truly unmatched. Kudos to Mrs. Hernandez, the hands-on Head of School, for fostering an atmosphere that is safe, community-driven, and passionately encourages engagement. Her leadership style is reflected in every aspect of the school's ethos, creating a vibrant and stimulating environment for all students. Mrs. Hernandez's exceptional passion for the well-being and growth of the children is a true inspiration and elevates our experience. In summary, Harper School is not just an educational institution; it's a place where creativity flourishes, and engagement is paramount. We are grateful for the exceptional education and nurturing environment that has become an integral part of Legend's journey. Highly recommended!

Questions parents ask about HARPER SCHOOL

Is HARPER SCHOOL a licensed child care provider in California?

Yes. HARPER SCHOOL holds California licence 414004824, currently listed as "LICENSED" by the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, first issued on August 26, 2021. Confirm current standing with the agency before enrolling.

What kind of child care licence does HARPER SCHOOL hold?

California licenses HARPER SCHOOL as a day care center, a category that covers preschool-age children in a centre-based programme. The category comes from the state's own licence record, not from the provider.

How many children can HARPER SCHOOL care for?

HARPER SCHOOL is licensed for up to 110 children at one time. Licensed capacity is a ceiling set by the state, not a count of current enrolment or of available places.

How often has California inspected HARPER SCHOOL?

California records 3 inspection visits to HARPER SCHOOL, the most recent on November 12, 2025 and the earliest on record August 1, 2023. The state publishes the dates of these visits but not what they found, so this count reflects licensing activity, not results. Read the findings themselves in California's own facility search.

Has California visited HARPER SCHOOL in response to a complaint?

California records no complaint-driven visits to HARPER SCHOOL. That means no concern prompted a visit on the public record, which is not the same as a clean inspection history: the state does not publish what its visits found.

Who holds the licence for HARPER SCHOOL?

The licence is held by HARPER SCHOOL-CALIFORNIA LLC. California lists the licensee separately from the facility name, so the two often differ. The facility is in San Mateo County.
