My son attended Belmont Childcare Center for about a year. While there were a few positives, overall our experience left us disappointed and concerned. One of the biggest issues was the low teacher-to-child ratio. There were often too many children for the staff to manage effectively. This made it hard for the teachers to give the attention and guidance young kids need. I also felt that some of the staff, particularly the younger or less experienced ones, lacked training in early childhood development. One teacher in particular, who seemed to be the youngest on the team, would frequently describe my son as “horrible,” “intense,” and “aggressive,” even though he was just exhibiting typical toddler behavior like tantrums or testing boundaries. It was discouraging to hear such strong labels, especially without any constructive feedback or strategies to help support him at home. There was also a concerning incident where my son fell off a toy car and scraped his nose badly while a teacher was right there. When I received a call about it, I was told it was a small scrape on his forehead and that he was doing fine. But when I picked him up, his nose was clearly cut up and looked much worse than described. It made me question how transparent and attentive the communication really was. That said, I do want to acknowledge that the director was always warm, professional, and understanding. I also really appreciated the infant teacher, the most senior staff member, who showed true care, patience, and a nurturing presence. This daycare may work better for some families, but I hope to see improvements in staff training, communication, and support for both children and parents.
