River School is such a magical community for littles and their families. I only wish we had found it sooner! The child-led, nature-based, and play-based curriculum has given my preschooler such a wonderful experience where he has thrived and found a new confidence and joy.. The teachers and staff are all so warm and welcoming, and bring out all the perfect and unique strengths of each child in their care.
Brean Flynn WitmerJul 25, 2025Our two children attended River School- Beth has done a wonderful job bringing together a group of warm, kind and supportive teachers. There is a mix of exploring, learning and playing, all while fostering the growing minds of littles. We would send them back again and again!
Margaret LibbyJul 24, 2025What a magical little school! We’ve had the joy of sending both of our children to River School—our daughter attended for Pre-K, and our son spent two wonderful years there for both preschool and Pre-K. The teachers at River are incredibly dedicated, kind, and truly see each child as an individual. It feels like an extension of home rather than a place where kids are simply watched—it’s a nurturing, thoughtful environment. The curriculum is a beautiful blend of Waldorf, Montessori, and classic academic approaches. Children spend most of their day playing and exploring outdoors (something we deeply valued for both of our kids—it truly celebrates the curious nature of childhood). We love that they get to play in the mud, play on the "climbing tree", and sled in the winter. When inside, they’re engaged in creative, hands-on activities like painting, ceramics, mixed media, and imaginative art projects that often support role-play. They also enjoy baking, music classes from 317, and weekly yoga sessions—such a well-rounded and joyful experience! Any concerns we ever had were always met with empathy and open communication. We consistently felt supported as parents, and confident that our kids were in a loving environment that also supported their academic and emotional growth. If you’re looking for a school with small teacher-to-student ratios that fosters a natural love of learning, discovery, and creativity—join the River School family. We’re so grateful for our past three years there. It’s bittersweet to watch our children move on, but we know they’re leaving confident, capable, and more than ready for Kindergarten and beyond.
Stephanie BerryJul 21, 2025We’ve had such a wonderful experience at The River School. The staff are caring, attentive, and truly invested in each child’s growth. The curriculum strikes a great balance between learning and play, and our son especially loves the creative art projects and hands-on activities. One of our favorite aspects is the emphasis on nature—regular outdoor exploration has fostered our son's appreciation for the natural world. Most importantly, the sense of community they’ve built is really special. We’re so grateful to be a part of it!
emma walshJul 21, 2025River School is a super special place. The teachers are incredible and create a loving and nurturing community for social learning, skill/agency development, and creative expression. Our son has grown leaps and bounds over the past year -- and loves going to school to be with his friends. We are so grateful to have found this special school that is setting him up for a love of learning!
Emily DrummondJul 2, 2025We had a wonderful experience in the intro-to-school program. The philosophy of the school, small size, and the cozy classroom drew us in, and we are especially grateful to the teachers for their guidance into the world of school. The teachers truly helped us through the transition from home and met us where we were with gentle kindness. We have enjoyed seeing the creative projects and interesting activities they engage in during the school day, as well as attending fun gatherings in the fall and spring. Our child has especially loved the painting and crafts offered in the classroom each day. We are looking forward to more fun years at River School with our new friends!
