When we moved from Toronto, Canada, to Portland, Oregon, we were looking for the best school to enroll our four-year-old daughter. After exploring several options, we found that The Goddard School of Portland matched all our criteria perfectly. It was also conveniently located close to both our home and office, which was a huge plus for us. Our daughter absolutely loved the school especially the teachers, play area, and her classmates. We are truly grateful to the teachers and school management for making her kindergarten experience so memorable and enjoyable. The only little concern our daughter mentioned was that she didn’t enjoy nap time in the afternoon and would have preferred some quiet activities instead to keep her engaged. 🙂 Overall, both my spouse and I were extremely happy with the school and the care, attention, and learning environment they provided. We are happy to give The Goddard School of Portland a well-deserved 5-star rating as a token of our gratitude.
Karpagam BalasubramaniamMay 28, 2026We have had two kids at Goddard over the past 4 years and overall have had a positive experience. The kids have always been well taken care of; their physical and emotional needs are being met and we've never had any safety or wellbeing concerns whatsoever. There is a fair amount of turnover in the staff but I think that's normal for the industry unfortunately. We've had some truly wonderful teachers and some that were so-so. Teachers handle misbehavior from the kids appropriately. Where I think they're most lacking is in curriculum (for preschool and pre-K), which should have more focus on pre-reading and writing skills. Multiple teachers have expressed frustration to me that they aren't given resources for lesson plans/curriculum development for structured learning, so they do more "play-based learning" which is really just free play. When we first toured Goddard, they advertised that they are a SCHOOL for play-based learning, but what they deliver is more like a good quality daycare than a school in terms of learning outcomes. It's higher priced than local alternatives and I wish there was more to show for the expense.
Molly DeMarieApr 28, 2026The reason for this score is because Goddard takes the best care of my son. He loves his teachers and little baby mates. I love the daily updates for diaper changes, feeding schedule and many pictures I receive so I can see my cutie throughout the day. The school is clean and very welcoming, the staff is beyond respectful and friendly. I am glad I when with them vs any other school. Super happy with my choice here.
Aleatha LesueurApr 23, 2026We loved Goddard! Our kiddo has been there for almost 3 years and she is loved by all teachers and staff. Temperance, director and Margie, assistant director are communicative to parents about their kiddo, responsive to suggestions, and so thoughtful in creating a supportive environment for all of the kids! Most recently they have had an ice cream social, BBQ, and parents night out events which bring families together. I also love that teachers and staff use the Procare app so we get real time pictures throughout the day and can send messages to the teachers. I know my kiddo is in trusting and loving hands at Goddard.
Lauren BauerJul 30, 2024We have a kiddo at The Goddard School, age 5. They have been attending preschool at the South Portland location since 2021. We have enjoyed our time there so much and are sad to be graduating this summer. The teachers are attentive, engaging, and want the best for their students. I am so impressed with the curriculum and how much my kiddo has enjoyed learning. I am happy to say my kiddo is reading and writing before Kindergarten thanks to the fabulous staff on location. The parents of other students are wonderful too, we have met some very good friends during out time at The Goddard School.
Margaret MartinMay 13, 2024We have both our kids at Goddard (ages 4 and 1) and have been there now for 3 years. We love all the engaging hands on activities the teachers do with the kids every day. They’re always bringing home fun art, new sign language and Spanish, and love their teachers and friends at school. They really learn a lot at Goddard and prepare them to excel in kindergarten. We get updates (written and pictures) via the app. It’s so nice to have reassurance and easy communication with teachers throughout the day. We love that they go outside on the school playground twice a day. We really feel the school and teachers take safety seriously. We would recommend Goddard to anyone considering it.
