  • My daughter attends The Block academy and has since before they bought the preschool from CSS. My son attended CSS. Most of the staff continued with The Block Academy once CSS was sold. I see two reviews (assuming from parents of the same child) saying The Block Academy is not accommodating or inclusive of neurodivergent kids. I can tell you from experience with the school and staff dating from 2022 that is NOT the case. My children have been in classes with multiple children with special needs of all types and The Block Academy has always accommodated - they even have support staff “helpers” for these kids. They will offer recommendations for evaluations and help parents support their children. One of my daughter’s classmates has a rare condition and they even had an awareness day for that child. They are a very inclusive school. Every time I seen staff work with a child with special needs, they have went above and beyond to accommodate and meet that child where they are. I had to write this review because my personal experience of being apart of the Block cannot be further from the impression those parents giving the one star reviews have. I would rate the block academy 10/10 when it comes to inclusivity.

  • We love The Block Academy! They continue to provide amazing care for our daughter. The Director and Assistant Director are absolutely the best; they are extremely responsive, and it’s evident they have the children’s best interests at heart. I can’t say enough good things about the teachers, as well as Mr. Bob, who works hard to ensure the safety of the staff and children. We never have to worry when she is there, and our daughter looks forward to attending school every single day!

  • We’ve had a really great experience with this preschool. The staff are caring, attentive, and genuinely love working with the kids. My child always feels comfortable and excited to go, which says a lot as a parent. I’m really grateful we found this preschool and would definitely recommend it to other parents looking for a place they can trust.

  • My 4 year old son absolutely LOVES it here. He has special needs stemming from a rare genetic condition that causes developmental delays & he’s also non verbal. The Block Academy has been SO accommodating in every way that they can. They even helped us get therapists to come to the school and see him instead of us going to another location. Some days are harder than others but his teachers and the staff are always so helpful in trying to understand his ASL and encouraging him to use his AAC device. They even held an assembly celebrating his differences and teaching about his condition on the national awareness day. He loves all of his friends and gets so excited every time we even pull into the parking lot. We are so grateful to have found TBA for his first schooling experience!

  • My autistic daughter went to tour the school for pre k and the teachers were ignorant to her telling her to sh when she was excited and we were told if he is too loud she will be isolated in a room all by herself would not recommend this place.

  • We toured this school for Pre-K with our daughter, who is autistic, and unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. From the very beginning, the expectations placed on her felt unrealistic and not developmentally appropriate for a child experiencing her first ever Pre-K setting. When she became excited, she was told to “shh” and to sit down, rather than being given understanding or support. It was made clear that the other children had already been in the program for approximately six months, yet no grace was extended to her as a newcomer — especially one with a diagnosis that was disclosed upfront. We were also told that another child with autism was “too noisy,” he would be moved to another room and essentially isolated. This was deeply concerning and felt punitive rather than supportive. Additionally, we were questioned about behavioral issues and aggressiveness, despite our daughter not displaying those behaviors. Overall, the environment did not feel accommodating, inclusive, or aligned with supporting neurodivergent children. For a school that serves young children, especially those with varying needs, we expected compassion, flexibility, and understanding — and unfortunately, that was not our experience.

Questions parents ask about THE BLOCK ACADEMY

Is THE BLOCK ACADEMY a licensed child care provider in Pennsylvania?

Yes. THE BLOCK ACADEMY holds Pennsylvania certificate 104420098-0001, listed as "LICENSED" by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning in Philadelphia County. The current certificate runs to December 3, 2026. Confirm current standing at compass.dhs.pa.gov/providersearch before enrolling.

What is THE BLOCK ACADEMY's Keystone STARS rating?

Pennsylvania rates THE BLOCK ACADEMY STAR 2, on a scale of one to four where four is highest. That tier took effect on October 31, 2025. Keystone STARS measures programme standards such as staff qualifications and learning environment, not inspection outcomes.

Does Pennsylvania record a negative sanction against THE BLOCK ACADEMY?

No. The state's provider dataset records no negative sanction against THE BLOCK ACADEMY at the time the record was published. That is a single field in a snapshot, not a full compliance history, and it is not the same as a clean inspection record. The licensing inspection detail is at compass.dhs.pa.gov/providersearch.

Does THE BLOCK ACADEMY accept child care subsidy?

Yes. THE BLOCK ACADEMY holds a subsidy agreement with the state. The agreement covers these age groups: Infant and toddler, Preschool, School-age. An agreement means the provider can bill the subsidy programme, not that a funded place is free today. Eligibility is decided by your Early Learning Resource Center, Early Learning Resource Center for Region 18.

Does this page show inspection results for THE BLOCK ACADEMY?

No. Pennsylvania completes at least one unannounced inspection a year at every licensed provider, and publishes the results through the provider search at compass.dhs.pa.gov/providersearch. Those results are not included here, and there is no open dataset of them, so nothing on this page reflects THE BLOCK ACADEMY's inspection history either way. Look the provider up there and read the licensing inspection record.
